U-17 ‘Madalas’ Exposed
FIVE under-17 national team players who undertook the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan are overage.
About 30 players last week undertook the MRI scan at Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital and 25 are eligible to feature for the under-17.
It is a requirement by FIFA that all players in the junior teams are tested to curb age cheating which has been rampant in African football.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has since submitted a list of 25 players to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ahead of the Africa Under-17 Championship qualifier against South Africa in October.
FAZ communications manager Erick Mwanza said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that some players were overage.
Mwanza said the players that did not succeed have since been handed over to the under-20 and under-23 teams where they are eligible to play.
“We are happy that most of the players successfully went through the MRI scan. We have a number of them that did not go through and we have handed them over to the teams where they are eligible to play,” he said.
Mwanza said FAZ submit the list of the under-17 squad to the Confederation of African Football.
The deadline for submission of players was August 15.
Mwanza appealed to clubs and academies to ensure that the ages of players are genuine before handing them over to national teams.
He said the MRI scan is a very expensive exercise and thanked FAZ councilors and club officials for the support.
Some players in the under-17 squad are part of the Airtel Rising Stars team, which is competing at the Airtel inter-country football championship in Nairobi.

lier there is no MRI at UTH and if they came to the Cancer Hospital i would have known coz inside UTH premises the MRI is found only at Cancer Hospital.

Go with your so called real age and you will see how you will bw wired! the west Africans are usually up to no good when it comes to football. If we want, let us go with our under 5 squad. the choice is ours. The Age cheaters will come out victorious.

Cancer Diseases Hospital is an autonomous hospital but unfortunately located within the premises of UTH. The two however have a MoU on the accessibility of these advanced imaging equipment. I m sure Masuwa is based at CDH and ignored the fact that the public may not be aware about administrative hospital boundaries…

Iwe musawa stop the polemics. MRI is in cancer disease hospital which is inside UTH grounds. So FAZ took the chaps to the right place, UTH.
