The Ministry of Finance has released K278.1 Billion to the Public Service Pension Fund of which K258 Billion were outstanding pension contributions owed by the state.
Ministry of Finance public relations officer Chileshe Kandeta in a statement released to QFM News today says this is in line with Government’s policy of liquidating all outstanding pension contributions.
Mr Kandeta says as a Ministry, they are confident that this measure will help fulfill the promise made by President Michael Sata during the official opening of Parliament in October 2011; to pursue all possible means of ensuring dignified lives for all citizens.
He says the release of outstanding pension contributions will definitely help to ensure that the majority of public service workers who were left in destitution upon retirement begin to get their dues after years of waiting.
He adds that this is a Clear indication that Governments’ promises are beginning to fall in place.
Mr Kandeta says Government sympathizes with the families of those who died without receiving their terminal benefits, and that it is for this reason that the public service pensions fund is being urged to ensure that, where facilities exist at provincial level, payments should be made as close to the beneficiaries as possible.

That’s not much, A retired teacher gets about half a billion as pension, now how many will be paid? How many ministries will pay their former employees? As a former civil servant i hoped for more than this.

@Bystander, read the story again. What do you mean it’s not much? The Pnsions funs were owing K258 billion and they have been given K278 billion meaning they will pay everyone with K20 billion to spare as they build moree reserves so people are paid immediatel they retire.
Good work PF and hats off to MCS (Muntu Chachine Sata)

Bystander, i somehow wonder what he really means its nothing? A journey of 1000 km starts with one step. Has he heard of such amount of money during Rupiah’s time? Bystander should unerstand that govt has so many areas to tackle think of NCZ the govt has disbased 42bn in the same week. I think lets learn to appreciate coz almost every part of our country needs funding. So PF thump up and bravo to the president.
