SATA Moves RDA From Ministry Of Works & Supply To Office Of The President

Flash Back: President Sata On Facebook

President Michael Sata has announced that his office will take over RDA from the Ministry of Transport, Communications, Works and Supply in order for him to supervise all road projects.

Speaking during the launch in Lusaka this morning, President Sata said the development is in line with the Patriotic Front’s promises of improving the country%u2019s road network.

He says the launching of the “Link Zambia-8000″ road project, is the beginning of the many projects to be undertaken by the PF government.

The President has since urged provincial ministers to identify key roads in their areas in order for government to develop them.

Speaking earlier, Transport, Communications, Works and Supply Minister Christopher Yaluma said government is committed to ensuring that the road network across the country is developed.

The Leopards Hill Road project would go over Chongwe River and connect Feira right through to Luangwa Bridge.

On the other side, the road would provide a link to Kasisi, Chipembi, Chalimbana and Palabana, among other areas.

That is good. In Botswana for instance, the vice predo, is incharge of all gov projects and reports fortinithly to the president on the progress of such ventures.

We are now witnessing some political, developmental and economical seriousness on the part of government in terms of improving the road infrastructure. This is a great move that the President has made because RDA needs tight and close supervision. Call it dictatorship for the best! I pity prophets of doom! You cannot bring down a good man.

This is a good move Mr President as you will ensure close monitoring of road projects. There is a lot of corruption in RDA and tender procedures.

great move now even the rural road unit should be serious. the nseluka-kayambi nakonde and chipoka-kayambi nakonde roads please ba President

  22. Northerner

    September 20, 2012 at 4:25 pm

I feel RDA should be disbanded and a National Transportation Agency be formed. Roads are taking us nowhere. By now, we should be thinking about railway transport and water traansport. We are wasting too much money on roads when we could have been developping the railway network now. Imagine spending 600 billion on Chingola Solwezi dual carriage way when we could have used half of that money on Tazara rehabilitaion.

  23. Mafukeni Mutondo

    September 20, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Great Leaders come up with unique ideas. The moving of RDA to your office will yield results. Please move on Mr President. Further, mobilise the ZNS wing to support road works in rural areas with earth moving equipments. Next year order five tractors for rural contituencies so that we cultivate all arable land. By 2014,there will be bumper harvest never seen in Zambia before. We can export to neighbouring countries. By 2015,the opposition parties will have nothing to talk about.

  24. Nak

    September 20, 2012 at 4:40 pm

@ Northerner I wonder if you understand transportation? Where did you do ur Engineering if you ever studied that? Hey railway transportation is not as cheap as you put it and you cant stop building roads to build railways. Roads have not even reached a level you can admire in Zambia. We still need more roads pliz

This is daylight robbery. Sata and his stooges are taking business to state house (where he used to accuse RB) so that they can put more money in their pockets. Abemba kupusa. fyooooooooooooooo

  29. James

    September 20, 2012 at 7:16 pm

@Ine nalilowa. Kwena ulifontini, what is the level of your education by the way? You mean you can’t understand the criteria behind the presidents decision to move RDA to his office despite the explanation in the article?
You need to do alot of social studies. Its not him who will be involved in tendering or contracting processes, him he wants to be inspecting the works which is normal for task for any committed in such positions. I remember late FTJ has to inspect some projects as well.
Bwana president that is a very good idea, keep it up we voted for you we knew you can do more than we think you can do.

  31. kibwela kasongo

    September 20, 2012 at 9:37 pm

I urge the president to be rational and consider roads of economic benefit to the country.

I believe that the roads leading to and from the copper producing areas as well as farming blocks should be prioritized. These offer the lifeline of the nation and all I believe agree with me.

It will not pay to develop roads that will remain white elephants while cargo takes ages to move from point A to B.

Thanks and let posterity judge us.

The president is sooo bored he wants to be following up on road works rather than other pressing issues.what kind of nonsense iz this.ther ar other offices instituted for such purposes.seriously, are u for real ba PF!!!!!?!!!!

  34. huwiii

    September 20, 2012 at 10:38 pm

@Nicole! I have never entered any shop where some one will buy things cheaper because he is PF. I have never seen a strudent who has paid lower fees because he is PF. I have never seen a commuter who has paid half fare on a bus because he is PF. I have never seen a worker who have gotten double salary because he is PF. So outside politics we have alot of things in common. Infact, no one loses in this case and no one gains more. Those roads will be used by all people including HH.

@comfort all the good intentions from the President thats all u can say. Lets be serious, forget politics en look at the bigger picture. Its for the good of the nation and thats what matters not the party u support. From u statement its clear that u just have hatred for the President.
