Over 29,000 Zambian passports have disappeared.
The 32 –paged Zambian passports valued at over K9 billion disappeared from passports office in 2010 and to date there has been no explanation on how the documents were lost.
According to the latest audit report, 366 000 passports were issued in the year in question but only 336.026 were accounted for, the rest simply disappeared.
The report further said that the passports that were not accounted for were those that were issued at K320, 000.
But when contacted Home affairs permanent secretary Max Nkole declined to comment stating that the loss occurred before he assumed office.
The auditor general’s office has insisted that to date the passports have not been properly issued and accounted arguing that the report was sent three times to the passport office without being denied.
Many foreigners especially West Africans have been caught travelling on Zambian passports.
Recently a notorious murderer who was on the most wanted list in the United States of America, Abraham Mpaka, a Nigerian was travelling on a Zambian passport

THAT IS WHAT CORRUPTION DOES. YOU EVEN COMPROMISE NATIONAL SECURITY!
OUR ZAMBIAN FRIENDS IN ABROAD KNOW THAT UNLESS YOU BRIBE PASSPORT OFFICERS WITH NOT LESS THAN K1,000,OOO YOU CAN NEVER HAVE YOUR PASSPORT PROCESSED.
WHERE IS THE ACC? WHAT IS THIS CALL AGAINST CORRUPTION. ZAMBIA IS A JOKE.

i met ghanaian women with Zambian passports in the middle-east…they said they bought the passports in lusaka after spending only two month in the country. Travelling on a ghanaian or nigerian passports is not easy for many business minded west africans so they opt to used Zambian or Malawian passports I was told.

RB and his sons made Zambia a free for all scums who can afford the passport from all over Africa. His son was using different passports to get to Kenya, he must have an idea about the passport transactions.

This has nothing to do with RB. It is just that the monkeys are in-charge of a maize field. They will reap and finish everything.

These cases of passports in Zambia have now reached alarming levels. Many criminals around the world are using Zambian passports to the extent that even if you are real Zambian and have the right to possess a Zambian passport, you become a suspect for acquiring one, the world out there does not trust anybody carrying a Zambian passport. Changing the passport will not solve the problem, the office just need to change the culture of money oriented. We should make strict laws concerning the issuance of passports. It is so had to get a passport for Zambians and I would not like to go through that process again. The passport office just need to be scrutinized and serious monitored to eradicate such criminal activities and keep out those chaps outside the office who busy helping foreigners to acquire the passports!

How many times can the passports be changed. This is a sheer waste of money which can be diverted to our poor health system. It is sad that even after 48 years of independence we still have people who are prepared to sell us. The best solution is to remove all those who have been working there (passport office) and transfer them to other ministries. They should be rotated between different ministries. Another solution is for people to pay at the bank or post office. But knowing these corrupt zambians people will still have problems when going to collect them. You just wonder when will they ever become rich after all the money they have taken from the poor.

Thats what MMD left for you 29,000 passports missing, thats a scandal. ANY proper govt. should have instituted a commission of enquiry into the matter. PF please do something about this. K9 billion can build many things in Shangombo, no wonder the MMD failed to develop the country.

It must be possible to get the Passport numbers of the missing passports. Once this is determined, these passports should be revoked. All those caught up with these passports should then be arrested for interrogation. They would indicate how they acquired these passports. The then Officer in Charge of Passport Office should answer for this 9 billion Kwacha loss and great compromise of National security..
