Zambian students in Russia would like to air their grievances to the Zambian government. According to the agreement we signed with our government, we are supposed to get our top up allowances every 4 months (that is January, May and September) but, this is October and we have not yet received our allowances.
We have contacted our Zambian embassy here in Moscow and the bursaries committee in Zambia and the only answer we get is “THEY DON’T KNOW WHERE THE MONEY IS” while students here are starving and they have been chased from their hostels because they haven’t paid for their accommodation. They also have not sent money for medical policies and we are being threatened to be expelled from school because it’s a law of the Russian Federation for all foreign students to have medical policies before the start of an academic year which starts on the 1st of September.
This is not the first time it is happening, it happens every time we are supposed to get our allowances, it never comes on time. This issue has been raised a number of times but the government has not come up with any amicable solution to paying us our allowances and medical insurance policies in time.
Do we have to block roads, march to state house or burn cars for them to understand that we are really need a listening ear??? Or do we have to sleep at the embassy for us to be heard??? Living in Russia is not JOKE…tumfweniko PULIZI twapapata.

This is serious! I feel bad really. Why does our Govt behave like this? The problem is that most of these decision makers have never been in a foreign country as students. It’s really tough being out there. Can someone please listen or attend to the plight of these almost dying students. Umusebanya wafula mwe bantu.

1)Foreign students living in Russia are not allowed to work or do any form of piece job as they do not have work permits and can NOT be granted any because their visas are student visas!!…ISo leaving them without allowances is basically telling them to beg or Steal!!because their hands are TIED!! HAVE A HEART ZAMBIA, HAVE A HEART!!..
2)At the start of every academic year..students need and MUST buy medical policies, pay hostel fee and renew their visas or face expulsion. Not only that, the the start of every academic year comes with the need to process new documents, buy books and pumflets etc…without which the student can not learn properly.
3)Most students are forced to live very far away from their schools and must take 2 or 3 buses to school the same on their way back. The price of a bus now is 15roubles and 17roubles for a faster mini bus…which means one would spend not less than 60 roubles in a day and in 4 months that adds up to a quater of their (4 month)allowance or equivalent to their monthly allowance or even more in big cities like moscow and st.petersburg..so even though it may seem like big money from were our friends are standing, its just transport money in Russia.

Hey guyz, let’s not crack jokes here,is issue is very sensitive, staying in a foreign country isn’t easy. more especially the issue of medical policies. Some re in their last years and if they re chased 2day,how painful will it be..and a very foolish one is busy saying let them come to CBU, do u have Pure and Applied Sciences(Physics) at CBU. The Gov should hear the cry of our brothers in Russia..

That is the problem of sending cadres who know nothing to represent people. That is a very big problem and the Zambian embassy cannot tell the students that they do not know where the money is. Their duty there is to solve problems affecting Zambians not enjoy their stay and our money doing nothing, supposed it was your child or one of the minister’s children would you sit and tell them you do not know where the money is? Report to the Zambian authorities here at home the problem Zambian students are going through and the gvt should source some money and send the students or withdraw them from Russia if they cannot afford to pay for their up-keep. This is very embarrassing.

what is goin on? the gvnt is sleepin on duty, its nt the 1st time we complained abt late payments, and askin the embassy is like askin an outdated stone.
Everytin is wrong abt how the gvt deals with our welfare
1. Not only do we get late payments but also get the smallest top-up allowance. If I said students frm America get more money than us I will look a fool cz pipo wil be sayin this ***** doesnt knw that America hs a much stronger economy than we do ,then wat abt Zimbabwe , Somalia and Chad ? Their students get more than we do and on time!!
2. There is shallow and narrow mindedness in our Ed minister. He thinks 5 million kwacha is a lot of money when its given to a student in Russia forgettin that the economy of Russia is much stronger than ours. K5000,000= 30,000R
4500R( hostel fee)+3500R(medical insurance)+2500R(registration)+9000R(practicals)+ 3000R(transport)+ a simple warm coat costs 4500R, a student remains with 100$ (3000R) frm which he is supposed to spend 5000R per month..still uncruel?
3.Useless embassy !! when we contact officials with problems they start being busy for nothing , some even start travelling around to other cities where they offer unnecessary talks with students encouraging them to be studying on empty stomachs and get paid for unnecessary tours..better close the embassy than send us pipo who knw nothing knw abt wat it means to live in russia !! Ati the gvnt has allocated more money to ed sector than the previous gvt , then why cant u increase our so called top up allowances? Rupiya was abt to increase our top up ….
