Iris Kaingu Tells Zambians “Don’t be like me, This Has Traumatised My Family”
Iris Kaingu, the daughter of opposition law-maker Michael Kaingu, has regretted having been found in the compromising situation following a leak of a sex tape which landed her in and out of state detention after two nights.
Iris has also advised girls her age — in their teens — to be careful with the decisions they make in life and avoid at all costs to be found in the ‘embarrassing’ situation she found herself in sucking in her entire family and friends.
The 20-year-old former accountancy student at the prestigious and pricey Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) college is now seeking a sea change and relocating abroad to start her shattered life afresh away from the glare of the Zambian media.
This is according to an interview taped for the state broadcaster, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC).
Conversely, her dotting father has described the year-long ordeal as totally traumatising for the close-knit family as he vowed to stand by his adventurous daughter, who shot to instant national fame when her sex romp tape was leaked to the media and went viral on the internet turning her into a household name, a development that could have won her a role in a movie in Hollywood but certainly punishable in Zambia.

“I would not want this to happen to anyone,” Iris said, for the first time showing remorse for the ‘crime’.
Iris’s father has shown nothing but relief that his daughter is finally out of danger with the law even though she is now marked convict after being found guilty of producing obscene material that has the ability of corrupting minds and being charged K10 million instead of a jail sentence.
“Let us rest because the case was too much for us as a family. I can’t continue [commenting] and we will only be in a position to comment 10 days from now,” Mr Kaingu said.
Mr Kaingu is also MMD vice-president for politics.
Iris, on the other hand, is grateful to the people who stood by her during the case, that includes her family. She did not name her partner in the tape during her ZNBC TV appearance or in court.
Meanwhile, a concerned Lusaka parent has cautioned fellow parents to spend more time with their children, especially daughters in order to avoid an “Iris” recurrence.
In an interview yesterday, Christopher Sakala, a deacon at ZAOGA Church, said the moral fibre in society has deteriorated because most parents are not spending enough time with their children and inculcating good morals in them.
“Iris’ case is just a tip of an iceberg and there are worse things happening. As parents we need to teach our children to have the fear of the Lord…that way they will never subscribe to such evil acts,” Deacon Sakala, who also runs Supreme Pharmacy in Lusaka’s Northmead area said.
He said a number of youngsters have resorted to immorality because of frustration, anger, and lack of proper parental guidance.
Another parent Elliott Sililo said parents must learn a serious lesson form Iris’ case and keep a close watch on their children.
Mr Sililo said Iris’case is an eye-opener regarding the levels of morality or lack of it among youths in Zambia.
He advised the Kaingu family to remain strong despite the possible embarrassment this particular incident could have caused them, no matter what happens.
Others however, are a bit sceptical and are asking why Iris has been slammed as a ‘bad girl’ when Big Brother player Talia Hayward escaped with a slap on the wrist for making out with two guys on the widely-followed 90-day show watched all over the continent.
What is clear though is that despite having paid the fine, it may take quite a while for Iris to overcome the fact that thousands, perhaps millions watched her on the internet in sexual ecstasy when she should have probably been studying.

Its nice the case is closed. Good advise from the parents that comented and Tumfweko the so called Deacom’s business has nothing to do with this. An advise from my young lady, keep it behind you sis. We have seen worse things than the ka 16min thing. Concentrate on your studies and always aim high. All from me it was fun though…

IRIS I surely and all heartedly forgive you..many thanks to the parents who commented on this issue.Many of us might have commited bigger and worse crimes bt we have been luck bcoz it was nt known to anyone thats why we can throw any dirty at Iris but remember that even in the Bible its written “FOR EVERYONE HAS SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT TO THE GLORY OF GOD”. The two parents mentioned in the article were too general. Their advice should have been directed at Iris’ parents. They need it more than any parent now living. On muvi TV Mr Kaingu said Iris was grown up. He is more into politics than into family.

In my opinion Iris is a victim of a backward law. That her video would corrupt morals? Oh! Yeah! I have 5-6 brothers,uncles and cousins who have had kids out of wedlock I wonder who corrupted their morals.You think Iris did…..before she made the video. The point is,she made a video that one had to willing access on the web not being distributed on Lusakas’streets.Why is a sex video more punishable than street prostitution? Over a sex tape two kids got thrown outta college? This action is what is immoral,jailing her over this as opposed to being out on bail before judgement is what is immoral.The issue should not be the Iris sex tape but the reality world over is that teens now are getting involved sexually much sooner than any other time we have known.Did the justice in Iris’s case in passing sentence say he had watched the video? I am curious if he watched it full length.
