Monze ZCTU District Committee Dissolved
Dear Editor,
I write to respond to the action taken by ZCTU National Secretariat where they have decided to dissolve the district Committee on grounds that they have been non-functional. The secretariat just did this in order to get rid of the Chairman, Mr. Foster Matakala and the Secretary, Mr. Rays Mwansa because they have been the voice of the voiceless in the district.
This was necessitated by the newly appointed Regional Coordinator, a Mrs. Olga Mwanza from Choma. Apparently, the major reasons of removing the two officials from from the District Committee are:
During the 2012 Labour Day Celebration, they influenced other committee members and sent away the representative ZCTU had sent to the district because he came with 12 T-shirts and K200,000 as a contribution towards the celebration. The District Committee challenged the representative that there was no logic for the Union to bring 12 T-shirts and K200,000 when the members contribute more than K40million per month to various affiliates of ZCTU.
It was also not logical to share 12 T-shirts among more than 500 members in the district. 2. The second reason is that the two have been speaking on behalf of the district committee to have ZCTU President, Hikaumba and ZCTU Secretary, Roy Mwaba. These two leaders have not done eneough for the workers and the district officials felt that if these two are removed, maybe things could work out because Hikaumba and Roy Mwaba have overstayed on those positions.
On the other hand, the Regional Coordinator, Mrs Mwanza, had put in place an Interim Committee for a period of 90days and that within 90 days, elections will be held in the district. She also held a closed door meeting with the interim committee and ordered them not to associate with Mr. Matakala and Mr. Mwansa.
Fellow workers, the Union has been turned into a political arena and it is no longer representing the general members. Just during the 2011/2012 negotiations for better conditions of service, Retention Allowance was removed for Degree holders. This will mean that workers will not be motivated to go to school because they will still be getting almost the same allowances with the Diploma holder.

Its true ZCTU just like ZANUT and other unions have become ineffective and inefficient because of selfishness by top leaders. Let Monze workers lock up offices until the committee is reinstated or better until Hikaumba resigns on moral grounds

No Mr. Mwansaa, The 500 members you are refering to have their affiliated unions to give them T-shirts and stil yet That is where the K40M you refer to is channelled. The 12 T-shirts were enough for you 12 ZCTU officials. Even if Monze was as big as Sudan, It may never have 500 ZCTU officials.
If Hikaumba has overstayed, its because YOUR constitution allows it. VOTE wisely! otherwise sour grapes abound!!

Dear tumfweko editor.i have no comment on this zctu issue to comment but my bizzare suprise and as a concerned blogger my complaint is that every advice and comment submitted to your site is either blocked or unknown phrase added why?twhat is the meaning of all this? I remain silent and what for my reply

Kakolwe, dnt blame Mr. Mwansa. Are u aware that CSAWUZ as an affiliates contributes more than K100million to ZCTU per month? wat of these other affiliates? how much do they contribute?
Indeed Hikaumba and Roy ve overstayed becoz of the weakness of the constitution. bt u must as well knw that its the same Roy who is the head of the secretariat and he owez defends the constitution.
Kakolwe, mayb u are one of the beneficiaries of those in the interim committee that is y you are defending that the 12 t-shirts were enough. You organise the 2013 Labor day and see wat happens and see how dificot it is….
You must realistic sumtimes abt things. dnt b so defensive fo nothing over ZCTU…. i ws once an official b4 the disolved 1 and i stand to defend them. I am actually telling them neva to stand fo those positions in 90 days time becoz they wil b working wth the same Mrs. Mwanza and Roy…
ZCTU is a dead mother body wth no vision fo the workers.

It truly needs revitalization, we mst undergo revolutionary in this dispensation otherwise ZCTU is no more for the general affiliates benefit. Just why and what is it doing, because its foundation principles are diluted. The 1967 tripartite consultative council had gud meaning in coming up with ds Congress nd nt the Politics we ‘r now seeing.
Its high time we went into full shift, lets put out these leaders or just stop affiliating to it.
