Kitwe Woman Who Strayed into ZESCO Sub-Station & was Severely Burnt DIES at Kitwe Central Hospital

A WOMAN in Kitwe who was on Wednesday admitted at the Kitwe Central Hospital after she severely got burnt when she strayed into a Zesco sub-station has died, Family members have confirmed to Tumfweko.

Grace Mwakanamwinga of Old Ndeke Township got burnt around 07:30 hours on Tuesday 13/11 in a secured sub-station near St Martin’s School on Lumumba Road in Parklands.
Mwakanamwinga died Saturday 11/17.
Zesco technicians who rushed to the scene had to break the locks at the entrance to rescue Ms Mwakanamwinga who was screaming in pain after being burnt.

St Martin’s School Catholic sister Gloria Mwale who witnessed the incident said the sisters at the convent heard a person screaming and later saw passersby running towards the Zesco sub-station.

“When we went there, we found her burnt by the transformer. She was screaming in pain and told us that she wanted to relieve herself,” Sr Gloria said.

Energy Regulation Board officials also rushed to the scene and wondered how Ms Mwakanamwinga jumped over the parameter wall of the sub-station and what she really wanted at a secure facility.

Ms Mwakanamwinga was rushed to Kitwe Central Hospital (KCH) where she was admitted with 18 per cent burns.

Too bad she has died that way.18% burns should not have taken her life.I suspect she did not receive proper medical attention.

Kitwe central Hospital is worse than Chingola road which claims lives every week.
Was at this Hosp myself from 19hrs and a Doctor walked out on me saying his shift was up. It took over 30min for another Doctor to come into shift after the other had left.
I was only attended to past 22hrs when there was not even a queue.
I now understand why some people get physical with these people. Imagine you have taken a loved one to the Hosp and find nurses and Doctors are spending so much time on their phones when people are queuing up with some requiring urgent attention. Its sad indeed

Dip Stick is some how right 18% is managable but also depends on which parts of da body comprised of dat 18%. If da face, neck & chest were severely burnt, den she had high chances of dyng. But wat did she wants 2 do there? & how did she go in? MHSRIP.

We have no medical services in Zambia. If she lived in developed countries she certainly would have survived. Ati kitwe central Hospital. Why not just call it Kitwe Cemetery Horrorspot?

In the Zambian hospitals, the word “emergency” does not exist. The nurses on duty at the OPD of any hospital will not come to your assistance when you take a seriously sick person there. They will even show you where to find the wheel chair or the stretcher whatever the case may be. Instead of helping you, you will hear a nurse saying, Babikeni bwino not ifyo mubabikile.”
The problem is these days people join nursing due to scarcity of jobs and not because of the love of the saving lives.

Let us call a spade a spade despite the loss of life.
1.What was she doing in that secure place?
    2. ZESCO technicians had to break the locks to try to rescue her.
How did she gain access to a fenced and locked place so early in he morning?
    3. When she was leaving her house (which am sure is nearby), what did she tell her children/ dependants or siblings about her destination or business for leaving home?
    4. Climbing such a high fence when you are pressed by the call of nature can be a tedious task. How did she manage it?

Ba Tumfweko be thorough in your story collection. You should even have interviewed people from her home.

@Central Hospital Kitwe, actually am a victim of this hospital, my company is a memebr of the same rubbish high cost, I was sent there by my company clinic, for further scruitinization, that was August, and only to be given a date for November 11 which was a sunday, imagine, I never went back, I think the President should introduce the Inspectors of hospitals, and Health, and Schools, balitumpa sana, especially the nurses, they like -Ilyashi saana, please Ba Sata make sure you deal with them firmly. This low cost is worse, at high cost, one of my workmates was hospitalized there, I saw how these nurses and cleaners quee for food at the kichen, bread and butter, the sister in charge is not an acceptional for getting food meant for patients, please authorities, do something, otherwise tukalabaponona fye.
