Dr Kaseba Tells Off Opposition: It’s Not My Personal Money Please !

FIRST Lady Christine Kaseba Sata has advised opposition to tone down on criticism regarding the K1.5 billion allocated to her office because it’s not her personal money.

Dr Kaseba Sata said the money announced in the national budget is meant for paying salaries for support staff and fund programmes and activities related to the Office of the First Lady.

“The people you are seeing with me here have to be paid,” Dr. Kaseba Sata said, “the vehicles I am using have to be serviced and besides that, we have a lot of activities which need to be funded using the same K1.5 billion that has been allocated to my office in the 2013 budget.”

Dr. Kaseba

The First Lady was speaking at a media briefing at Wusakile Mine Hospital in Kitwe on Wednesday after launching the cervical cancer screening centre which has been named after her.

Dr Kaseba said the K1.5 billion is not enough compared to the many activities and programmes that have to be funded using the same money.

She however commended government for considering apportioning some funds in the 2013 budget to her office.

Dr Kaseba said previously, she used to depend on funds from the Office of the President when travelling within and outside the country on duty.
She also said Zambia has received about 180,000 doses of vaccine for the human papilloma virus (HPV) for the vaccination of 50,000 girls against cervical cancer in Lusaka Province.
Dr Kaseba said the cervical cancer vaccination exercise is a pilot programme which will be conducted in three districts in Lusaka Province, targeting girls between the ages of seven and 13.
She said the girls to be vaccinated have to be screened to determine whether they are virgins or not before the vaccine is administered.
“In the vaccination against cervical cancer, we are targeting girls from Lusaka, Chongwe and Kafue districts. There is a lot of work involved because the girls have to be virgins,” Dr Kaseba said.
She said the HPV vaccine is expensive but that the manufacturer is willing to sell it to Zambia at a subsidised price.
And Dr Kaseba said there is need to speed up the process of prosecuting cases of gender-based violence (GBV) in the courts of law.
“When a girl is defiled at the age of 14 and the case takes 10 years to go to court, what happens is that the victim would be an adult and would have been probably married. We need to prosecute cases of GBV within 90 days,” she said.
Dr Kaseba urged the women folk to speak out on GBV because this is the only way the vice can be combated.

Kabuswe, that is an older woman you are talking about. Would you say that about your mother. That is why you bring misfortune on your lives and die young in unexplained circumstances. My you reap the harvest of insulting a mother who has not insulted you.

You’re right! Since when did we have Office of the First Lady? Who are they accountable to? are they trying to say those people were not being paid until now? How were her trips funded in the past?…but of course blind followers won’t see anything wrong.
