Dear Editor,
It will be highly appreciated if my article will find space in your paper. Our national registration cards show tribalism where you ask me the village and chief I come from. Does it mean to be a Zambia is not enough unless you ask to the village and chief most case someone has never been and will never go. in this way the registration bring the sense of tribal and regionalism which is bearing fruit of conflicts in Western province and North-Western province particularly in Zambezi where the lunda and Luvale fight.
We need a system in Zambia which identifies us as Zambians not of particular square area in Zambia. My suggestion to concerned Zambians and MPs is push for registration that will do away with this colonial system which worked then to control villagers not to go to town that they had to get permission to go to town by white so needed Icitupa.
Every Zambia at birth must be given a number, this can be done at clinic if at home or village should be mandatory that someone to go to clinic or any public service need this number. And this number should be used as examination, driving license, passport, bank, NAPSA number and in all registration which need to be given a number.
And all information of education should be entered at central systems. So that if I apply for job they need to verify my qualifications if are quinine can just contact central system. At every city council when giving plots should make issue they know the person number so that they have their own data so if there any crime or need arises can trace the person so easily. And to burial a person need to show the certificate of burial so that central system can at the end of the year knows how many died in that year.
With this system will solves all necessity of census and control of foreigners and Bribe because to check if have quinine passport will be so easy is just check on the data in minutes and truth is found and no one will risky his/her in such system to buy a document. Please stop giving people too many numbers NRC number, driving license number, passport number, NAPSA number, Bank number, school Examination number, govt employee number why we can’t have one number for everything. Mps I leave this to you and concerned NGOs do us good on this issue.

Thumbs up Musonda. You are spot on.It is just a pity that we are too poor for such a system to work as it requires serious investment in the IT system by the government.I can`t see that happening in Zed in the near future.

BaMusonda, Thats a whole load of old rabbish. Tribalism exist not because we are identified as a tribe but coz of non acceptance of our diversity. I should be proud to be identified as a Tonga man & accept a Chokwe man as my equal. Chapwa!

Thank Mr. Musonda. There is pleanty of sense and any wise person will agree with you. Some of the information we carry on our identity documents may not be really necessary. This information about the chief and village can better be kept by National registration. I am bothered by the fact that even our passports needs to be put in line with international standards. Check all the passports in the region and arround the world you may never find one which bears the holder’s profession but ours does. By your profession which you may not even need be revealed you can be victimized. People should be as anonymous as possible and any information about them should only be availed when there is need to. I salute you sir!

Iyoo naimwe, the NRC should identify you at the place of orign, in case of an accident or any thing happens to you. The colour green identifies you as a Zambian , but there should be details where you come from the village the Chief and so fourth. Its important that you are identified as so and so from a particular Chiefdom and Village so that its easy to tell where you can be traced.

it the villege and chief which makes someone a zambian.? is zambia is a zambian born in zambia or born from zambian parents so village and chief have nothing to do with being a zambia.
