Cashless Zambian Soccer Fans Stranded In South Africa
SEVERAL Chipolopolo soccer fans Association supporters are stranded in Nelspruit and are struggling to organise transport money back home.
About 21 supporters who arrived in South Africa on Saturday are said to hae run out of money after one game of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations which started on January 19.
CSFA vice-chairman Chrispin Malata, who confirmed the predicament, said they are on the verge of being evicted from their hotel.
He said the Football Association of Zambia promised tickets to the group but nothing had been forthcoming.
“We had to buy tickets from the street vendors at an exorbitant price; a ticket that cost 20 rand was sold to us at 200. That has affected our budget, we came in the stadium at half time because we were still looking for the tickets for our members,” Malata said.
He said efforts to get help from sports Permanent Secretary Agness Musunga failed as her mobile phone was off.
“We are likely not to watch the Nigeria game..we have no money to sustain our stay here. The chunk of meat and a bag of mealie meal is all we have,” said Malata.
The group was seen at a service station planning on how they would return to Zambia.

Is is false information. I am in SA and there are no Zambian Supporters that are stranded, we are all alright and having a GAS.

Why have most Zambians become beggars. How could these fans buy tickets from the street. You were told to buy tickets in advance. They are not stranded, they just want the Zambian High Commission to accommodate them so that they use their money for shopping. Most of them went there for any other business – shopping.

If government and FAZ do not care, who cares if they are stranded? Isn’t that what Zambia is known for? Look at Ethiopians how they were cheering their team. Its like they were the defending champions. But when the cameras zoomed at the Zambian supporters, its like they were attending a funeral. So who cares?

Zambians are well known for drinking too much. I wont exclude myself mwandi, last month I spent my all salary on beers and just to had borrow money for food and rentals from my workmates. So nafyena fyalinwena!!!

I was almost stranded in Zambia because of the ATM’s not working when I had money in my account From Kitwe, Ndola, Lusaka, Livingstone none of the ATM’s worked. Luckily I filled up the Monday before the rebase date. So there are many explanations why people are stuck. Even people who had cash in their Zambian accounts where stranded. Either other central banks in other countries have suspended the kwacha or something is going on.

When will people stop being clever? Can any normal old person leave his or her country for pleasure with cash that will last a few days and start shouting on top of the roof top that they are stranded.

How can they be stranded when they were busy queuing up in the morning voting for PF to be putting more into their pockets, where has that money gone.
Why is the president scared of holding press conferences, scared of opposition holding rallies whilst he himself held different rallies at different times. PF is a cursed party and cursed be the day it was formed
