A SHOPKEEPER of Ndola’s Kabushi has told the Ndola Magistrate’s Court that he set his wife’s house on fire because he found that she had married another man when he returned from Mansa, where he had gone to look for employment.
This is in a case in which Oscar Mumba, 25, is charged with arson.
When the matter came up for plea before magistrate Ben Akende on Wednesday, Mumba told the court that he was surprised to find his wife with another man when he returned from Mansa.
“Your Honour, I was very upset when I found that my wife was with another man when I came from Mansa, where I went to look for a job to better our lives. I used grass to set the house on fire,” Mumba said.
He said he paid dowry to his wife’s parents and he was justified to act in such a manner.
Particulars of the offence are that Mumba, on November 15, this year in Ndola, willfully and unlawfully set fire to Veronica Phiri’s house.
Mumba answered in the affirmative when he was asked by Mr Akende whether he was justified to set fire to his wife’s house.
“I had every reason to set her house on fire because I was provoked,” he said.
But Mr Akende said provocation is not a defence in cases of arson and recorded a plea of guilty.
Mr Akende adjourned the case to today for written facts.
“I will record a plea of guilty and I will hear what the prosecution will say in the written facts,” Mr Akende said.

That was a wrong decision for mr mumba, what he was surposed 2 do, waz 2 divorce the wife, coz it seems like even b4 mr mumba went 2 mansa, that relationship btwin that man nd mrs mumba waz there, rather than setting the house on fire.

My quote:”The only thing to do to someone who is flirting with your wife is to let him have her.”
Sorry my name-sake, you would have let her be because that is the kind of women that we should let our friends marry them…..
