Southern Province minister Daniel Munkombwe says the PF will appeal to the church not to abandon the party when time comes to renew its mandate in 2016.
And SDA president Dr Harrington Simui Akombwa informed Munkombwe that the church on Wednesday opened a US$600,000 school in Livingstone called Terry Schwartz SDA Secondary School.
Addressing the 4th SDA Pastors’ Kids Association (PAKIA), Southern Africa-Indian Ocean (SID) congress at New Fairmount Hotel on Friday, Munkombwe said the church had special credibility with all governments in Southern Africa because it had never been in conflict with governments of the day.
“We will be renewing our mandate in 2016. We will appeal, we will pray to you so that you don’t abandon us, so that you don’t divorce us…At the time I will be called upon by President Sata, he will say can you go and meet those people. I know you will not divorce me,” Munkombwe said.
He said all governments needed the church’s support, because their goals were similar.
“We are all serving human beings. Development is meant to benefit God’s people and using that theory, that is why you (SDA) never swim outside any government,” he said.
And addressing PAKIA delegates from Madagascar, South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique, Angola, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi and Zambia, Munkombwe said children of pastors, just like their parents, were under scrutiny.
“Engage into positives and no negatives, because you are on microscopes. Children of pastors are on microscopes, a bad child, a misbehaving child is always an embarrassment to his or her family. Whatever my children do as a minister’s children, they are always looked at differently. My children must wear at least a semblance of what I am. Whatever the pastor’s child does, there is always a reference to the pastor. Whatever you do, even your walk, you must walk in the path of righteousness. Whatever you say must represent or reflect righteousness,” Munkombwe said.
And Dr Akombwa said the SDA greatly appreciates its values with the government.
He said the church wants to support the government in the provision of education, health and good road infrastructures.
Dr Akombwa said the SDA appreciates its values of assisting government in the provision of education and health services.
“We want to support our government building up good roads, hospitals and schools. Just yesterday Wednesday, we opened a new school (Terry Schwartz SDA Secondary School) and we were saying we could have some of our courses provided at Rusangu University offered here (Livingstone),” said Dr Akombwa.

The SDA says it wants to support government through education, health and other infrastructure. The SDA is supporting making lives better irrespective of partisan politics but as a church delivering service in God’s name responding to the needs of the people. Munkombwe must not politicize the goodwill of churches for theirs is to alleviate needs that communities hunger for!
