My Wife Admitted Being A Spirit And Queen Of The Underworld-Man Tells Court

A 26-YEAR-OLD man of Marapodi admitted in the Matero Local Court of calling his wife a satanist, saying she admitted being a spirit and queen of the underworld.
This is a case in which Benadette Mulenga, 37, also of Marapodi township sued her husband Peter Selemani for defamation of character after the latter accused her of practicing satanism.

Mulenga told the court that Selemani was her husband despite him deserting their matrimonial home.
She told the court that one time when Selemani fell very sick she nursed him as a wife is expected to take care of her husband.
“He used to urinate blood and each time he passed urine he would become worn-out and later faint. I took his blood sample to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) and the results were that he had syphilis,” said Mulenga.
Mulenga told the court that she then took Selemani to a witchdoctor for treatment and he was given herbs to drink.
She said when Selemani recovered he deserted her, adding that currently they were not living together.
Mulenga told the court that Selemani has phoned her several times just to insult her and accuse her of being a satanist from the time he recovered.
“I have brought him to court so that he can prove whether or not I’m a satanist and bring out a list of people he says I have killed,” she said.
However Selemani admitted calling Mulenga a satanist before Senior Court Magistrates Petronella Kalyelye and Lewis Mumba, adding that Mulenga herself told him she was a satanist.
“She is the one who told me that she is a spirit from the underworld and also said she is the queen of the underworld. She said witchdoctors can never to anything to her because they get their powers from the underworld,” he said.
Selemani said one day when Mulenga was removing dirt from his ears she started accusing his former wife of bewitching him and also for putting charms in his car.
“What made me believe her is when she locked the door to our house and gave me the keys to open.I failed to open the house and she took the keys from me and opened herself,” he said.
Selemani said one day he left money in his car and locked all the doors but Mulenga got the money from the vehicle without unlocking it.
In passing judgment, the court ordered Selemani to pay Mulenga K3,500 as compensation.
