Miracle Impact Ministries International overseer bishop John Nundwe says the Church should be patient with the government on the constitution-making process.
And Matero PF member of parliament, Miles Sampa, says it is President Michael Sata’s desire to reduce poverty and improve people’s livelihood.
During a service in Matero yesterday, bishop Nundwe said he was disappointed with clergymen that criticised the government on the constitution without offering solutions.
“I get shocked when bishops in white collars want to demonstrate over the constitution. I don’t want to hear you children of Miracle Impact get involved. We believe as Miracle Impact Church, it is our duty to pray and support the government of the day and not criticise negatively without offering any solutions,” said bishop Nundwe.
Bishop Nundwe said his church supported the governments’ stance and President Sata’s pronouncement that Zambia had a working constitution.
“We advise our fellow clergymen to be patient with government on the issue of the constitution as a church. Our constitution is the Bible and we shall stand on the word of God without fear of favour. We believe that the political playing field is not for the Church, but for politicians. We pledge our support to the government of the day because leadership and authority come from God. As a church we shall continue to engage government in constructive dialogue and not through mere criticism of government policies and decisions using wrong channels,” he said.
Meanwhile, bishop Nundwe said President Sata had shamed people that claimed he would be whipping citizens after winning the elections.
Bishop Nundwe said the government was chosen by God and needed support of everyone.
“We have seen change here in Matero because of you (Sampa). My prayer is that even the next election you should continue, your works speak for themselves. You have been with the people. PF is working,” he said,
“at first, even me I doubted that President Sata would win. You may not like it, but he was chosen by God. People thought when the President wins he would be whipping people but he is quiet, he’s working very hard,” said bishop Nundwe.
And Sampa said President Sata’s desire was to improve the living standards of all Zambians.
Sampa, who pledged his two-month-salary for the church, said he would dedicate his life working for the people of Matero.
“The President’s focus is to reduce poverty and improve the lives of our people. The constitution is important but food for our people is more important. PF will go to all villages and districts and take food to our people, that’s why we were voted into government,” said Sampa.
