Kitwe Man Tells Court ‘I stole K550 to buy food’

A 32-YEAR-OLD man of Kwacha township in Kitwe has told the Kitwe Magistrate’s Court that he stole K550 cash money from his employer because he wanted to buy food for his family.

When the matter came up for plea before magistrate Prosper Mwila on Wednesday, John Shawa admitted the charge.
“Your honour I stole the money because I wanted to use it to buy food for my family,” Shawa said.
Particulars of the offence are that Shawa on April 27 this year in Kitwe, being a servant to Prisca Zimba stole K550 cash.
Mr Mwila recorded a plea of guilty and adjourned the case to May 9 for written facts.
Meanwhile, two men of Kitwe have told the Kitwe Magistrate’s Court that they stole an 80-kilogramme bag of fish called Buka buka because they wanted to sell it to raise money to buy feed for their chickens.
This is in a case in which Davis Njovu, 31, and Chola Bwalya, 27, of Luangwa and Buchi townships, respectively, pleaded guilty to theft.
When the matter came up for plea before magistrate Maxwell Mainsa on Wednesday, Njovu and Bwalya admitted the charge.
“We stole the bag of fish because we wanted to buy feed for the chickens we are keeping,” Njovu and Bwalya said.
Particulars of the offence are that Njovu and Bwalya on May 3 this year in Kitwe, stole 80 kg of Buka buka fish valued at K7,000, the property of Elijah Chanda.
Mr Mainsa entered a plea of guilty and adjourned the case to May 12 this year for written facts and sentencing.
