Katongo Says He Has Changed His Mind About Retiring

imagesFootballer Christopher Katongo says he has changed his mind about retiring from football in 2015 and plans to continue with his career.
And Katongo says he will welcome back Herve Renard should the coach decide to return to Zambia.
Meanwhile, Katongo has clinched a three-year deal as brand ambassador for Best of Bikes motor company.
Speaking after a morning photo shoot for Best Bikes in Lusaka, Katongo said he was too energetic and skillful to retire from football.
He said he had planned to retire next year but felt he could still carry on with his career as he was able to play like any other young player in the national team.
“I have changed my mind; I’m not retiring in 2015 because I have the power and skill. I’m 31 this year and I will be 32 next year. Others play even when they are 40, so why should I think about retiring?” Katongo said.
“The time will come when I will feel that my legs are tired and I can’t continue, that’s when I will stop. But for now I have the power and the skill. I will continue playing until my legs tell me to stop.”
Meanwhile, Katongo said he would be the happiest player if Renard decided to return to coach Chipolopolo.
Katongo said the Fremchman was now a high level coach who had done a good job not only at national level but at club level as well.
“I would be very happy to see him back in Zambia. He has done well at club and national level. He is a top coach now and for me whether I’m in the national team or not, I would be happy to have him back,” he said.
Renard, who left French Ligue 1 side Sochaux last week after failing to help the team beat relegation, has hinted at a return to Africa.
Katongo further said he was looking forward to Zambia’s June 6 friendly against Japan, though he had asked for a few days to rest since returning from South Africa.
He said Japan was a good team that would give Zambia good preparations for the Africa Cup qualifiers.
“This is a big opportunity for the young players to have a feel of what we do. Everyone should take the game seriously so that they assess themselves ahead of the qualifiers,” Katongo said.
The skipper added he was now a free agent as his four-month contract with Golden Arrows came to an end at the close of the PSL season.
Meanwhile, Best of Bikes managing director Richard Sheppard said the company was proud to have Katongo on board as he was a respected national figure.
Sheppard expressed hope that Katongo’s status would attract football lovers to motor biking.
“He has come on board as our brand ambassador. We feel he is the right man because of his status. Best of Bikes deals with Yamaha and Jialing. So Chris will be marketing these products,” said Sheppard.

Why should people think only of Renard? In fact Katongo & his former coach should be phased completely from the National team.
