Kapoko Spends Night In Jail

Former Ministry of Health Chief Human Resources Officer Henry Kapoko yesterday spent a night in prison after the Lusaka Magistrate court detained him for alleged contempt of court. In this matter Mr Kapoko is accused of having sold one of the property that is an exhibit before the courts of law. In the main matter Kapoko and nine others are accused of having involved themselves in corruption, money laundering, and theft of over 6 million Kwacha from the Ministry of Health. Principal Resident Magistrate Exnobert Zulu was forced to send Mr Kapoko to jail after the state reported the offence and offered to provide evidence.

The Magistrate said he did not revoke or extend Mr Kapoko’s bail resulting in him spending a night in jail. When the matter came up this morning Mr Kapoko informed the court that he was not ready to proceed because he has developed a heart problem and had high blood pressure. It was at this point that Magistrate Zulu ordered that Mr Kapoko be taken to the University Teaching Hospital -UTH- for medical treatment.

Magistrate Zulu also reminded Mr Kapoko in custody until the contempt proceedings are disposed off. And speaking in an interview Mr Kapoko said he intends to questions and raise issues when the matter comes up.
