THERE was drama in a local court in Lusaka when a woman disclosed that a man who has dragged her to court so that he starts paying child maintenance through the court is not the father of the child he wants to be paying for.

Memory Mutale of Ng’ombe Compound was testifying in a case in which Simon Kacha of Chazanga compound sued her for lying to her relatives that he was not paying child maintenance when he was actually doing so and now he wanted to be paying through the court to end her lies.

Memory told the court that Kacha, who sued her wanting to pay child maintenance through the court for a seven month old baby for whom he was not the father of the child because she was already two months pregnant from another man when Kacha made love to her. Kacha had told Senior Court Magistrates Miyanda Banda and Harriet Mulenga at Matero Local Court that he sued Mutale because he wanted to be paying child maintenance fee through court so that the court could be witness he said despite paying K250 or K300 per month, Mutale was telling her relatives that he was not paying maintenance for the child.

In defence, `Mutale said she stopped receiving child maintenance because the child had a father named Humphrey Hansende and i was already two months pregnant when Kacha was making love to me.

‘’Kacha was aware that I was pregnant but he said t he will keep the child. The child is Humphrey Hansende Junior. Kacha was not sexually active and he has no other child. Me this is the third child,’’ Mutale said.

Mutale produced the under-five card where there were names of Humphrey Hansende.

But Kacha said that Mutale was not pregnant when he was making love to her and that the child is Simon Kacha junior. Passing judgment, the court said that it is only science that can help it and it ordered that Kacha, Mutale, Hansende and the child to go for a DNA test by suing through a subordinate court.
