Zambian DNA welcomes Government’s swift interventions to arrest the skyrocketing price of mealie meal.

It’s s worth noting that the Vice-President Madam Inonge Wina’s directive to the Agriculture Minister Honorable Michael Katambo to engage various stakeholders in the maize production and value chain demonstrates that Government cares for the Zambian people.

We are confident that Government’s current interventions will curb the escalating price of mealie meal and reduce it to affordable levels.

However, assertions by some disgruntled elements that the skyrocketing price of mealie meal is an indication of President Edgar Lungu and Government’s inability to manage the Zambian economy are unfounfed, baseless and malicious and should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.

Every right thinking Zambian is aware that agriculture is a liberalized sector of our economy −Government does not impose price controls, but the market forces determine the prices.

Nevertheless, Government has the mandate to intervene if price distortions exist to stabilize the price of essential commodities like mealie meal.

We are appealing to the Zambian people to remain calm as their Government intervenes to stabilize the price of mealie meal.
