Police Arrest Over 40 People After Riots In Kasama

Police in Kasama have apprehended about Forty-Two people in connection with the riots and looting that erupted at Kasama’s Chambeshi market on Thursday and Friday.

Northern Province Police Commissioner, Richard Mweene has confirmed the development to Mano News in a telephone interview today.

Commissioner Mweene states that calm has returned to the market as police have continued keeping vigil.

The Police Chief has since disclosed that property worth over One Million, Six Hundred Thousand Kwacha has been damaged and looted.

Commissioner Mweene said the family of the businessman is safe adding that no one has been injured.

Meanwhile, two Police officers were injured as they fought running battles with rioters.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Richard Mweene reveals that one suffered a fractured leg while the other one has suffered a deep cut on the head but are both out of danger.

Yesterday, Police in Kasama fought running battles with Location residents who had been rioting and looting a shop belonging to a businessman who they accused of practicing witchcraft.
