PF Standing On One Leg; it’ll Take a Miracle to Win in 2021 – Akafumba

NATIONAL Democratic Congress vice-president Josephs Akafumba says the PF government is standing on one leg and would take a miracle for them to win in 2021.

The Kabwe High Court on Thursday granted the NDC leave to commence judicial review proceeding, which also act as a stay of against government’s decision to deregister it.

Addressing the press at the party secretariat yesterday, Akafumba said the party’s operations must continue at full speed following the stay.

He insisted that there was no reason to deregister the National Democratic Congress.

“PF is standing on one leg. In an orderly society which is hygienically correct, there would have been no reason at all to deregister the NDC but here under President Edgar Lungu, the only one who comes to visit the country in intervals and flies back, anything is possible. Here under President Lungu, everything flies backwards but come 2021winangu azalila,” Akafumba said.

“It’s in public domain that NDC was deregistered by the Registrar of societies, a decision which was upheld by the Minister of Home Affairs. Arising from that, we did not agree and we still don’t agree with the reasons that were advanced by the Registrar of Societies to deregister the baby born with teeth in the name of NDC,” Akafumba, a former justice permanent secretary, said. “You are all aware that there are two reasons on which the Registrar of Societies can deregister a society or political party. These are failing to pay annual subscription or annual returns and when a political party diverts from its constitution and involves itself in criminal activities, proven criminal activities, we have not been involved in any of those two.”

Akafumba lamented that the brutal regime of the PF had no regard of the rule of law thus the ceremonial deregistration of his party.

He applauded the judiciary for showing that they could stand up to do the right thing in the face of PF.

“The reasons that the Registrar of Societies found it fit to deregister the party are neither here nor there. Under that belief, having felt to be treated unfairly, we proceeded to court in Kabwe yesterday where we applied for leave for judicial review and that leave was granted. The leave granted operates as a stay, meaning that NDC operates as before. Therefore, to our members, continue organising the party with full force, faka speed so that we ensure that in 23 months’ time, this brutal regime of PF, which has got no regard for the rule of law, can be brought to its end. Organise our structures, sensitise our people at least now we are back on the tracks,” Akafumba said.

He added that the stay would give an opportunity to the NDC to state its case and prove that there was no reason to deregister it.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the judiciary, we are aware, the country is now aware that PF is a lawless political party, it’s a lawless government which has destroyed all institutions of governance but we are comforted that even up to this time, the judiciary can stand up in the face of PF. We are not saying we have won the case but this gives us an opportunity to be heard so that we put our reasons across,” Akafumba said. “Ladies and gentlemen of the press you all know that this PF government is in its dying state, where it’s exhibiting serious kicks of a dying horse and anyone who crosses their way is severely kicked out. For now let’s use this opportunity as members of NDC to organise our party, organise our structures, the country is ripe.”
