Agro Dealers in Monze district have resolved not to give inputs to beneficiaries of the Farmer Input Support Program government pays all outstanding dues.
Interim committee chairperson Macmillan Mbewe explains that agro dealers only received about 50% payment for the inputs given last season, a situation that forced some to outsource funds for the success of the program.
Mbewe told Radio Chikuni News in an exclusive interview that due to the late payment, some agro dealers have lost their properties and some are in court for failure to pay their suppliers.
Mr. Mbewe disclosed that his association is not ready for the exercise until all outstanding payments are cleared and emphasized that currently all inputs will only be sold on cash basis.
He lamented that government has been engaged over the issue on several occasions but nothing is forthcoming but hopes there will be positive feedback before the onset of the rain season.
Mr. Mbewe who praised the E-Voucher system for allowing farmers access to a variety of inputs has since urged government to fully support the program and clear all outstanding arrears.
