AG Awaiting for Letter From LAZ to Compel Ex & Serving Ministers Pay Back illegally Accrued Salaries

Attorney General Likando Kalaluka says he is yet to receive a letter from the Law Association of Zambia –LAZ- to compel former and current ministers who illegally stayed in office in 2016 after the dissolution of parliament pay back the money accrued.

The Law Association of Zambia is in the process of engaging the attorney general and the secretary to the cabinet to obtain information on how much each minister who served illegally in 2016 owes the state for an execution order to be issued to compel the individuals affected pay back the money.

But Attorney General Likando Kalaluka tells phoenix news that he will only determine how much he can help in providing the information when he receives an official request from LAZ on the matter.

Mr. Kalaluka added that the judgment by the courts of law will be respected as emphasized by President Edgar Lungu.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Green Party, Peter Sinkamba has insisted that the former and serving minister should pay back the money because they served in office illegally.

Mr. Sinkamba feels if this issue is not followed to the latter, it will be difficult to fight against.

He has since urged president Lungu to refrain from promoting lawlessness by defending the ministers and instead support the judiciary’s ruling over the matter.
