Parliament Deferes Bill 10

Consideration of the second reading of Bill No. 10 has been deferred to February 2020.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Namugala granted the request after Acting Justice Minister Stephen Kampyongo requested for the deferment citing the need to concentrate on debating the 2020 national budget.

The controversial Bill Number 10 which has passed the second reading was reinstated on the order yesterday.

While the Bill was being presented to Parliament, Opposition UPND MPs walked out of House in yesterday saying they could not be party of Bill in its current form.

The Bill has widely been rejected by several stakeholders who civil society organizations and opposition political parties among others.

The Constitutional Court of Zambia this week dismissed the petition of Bill 10 by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) and Chapter One Foundation.
