The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has disclosed that it is in the process of acquiring an integrated tax administration system with E-payment and E- filling Interface Solutions as part of its on going modernization process.
ZRA assistant director Medium Tax office Northern Region Jevson Phiri disclosed this during the first ever national stakeholder engagement workshop held at Moba Hotel in Kitwe Friday morning.
Mr. Phiri said the acquisition of an integrated tax administration system will improve ZRAs service delivery to tax payers.
He explained that ZRA has been undertaking modernization reforms since 2006 with a view to re-position its tax administration so as to bring it in line with international best practices in tax administration now that the focus has shifted from tax type to tax payer.
Mr. Phiri said the reform programme has 5 components and that so far ZRA has managed to successfully implement 4, which include monitoring directorate, large tax payer and the implementation of the small and medium tax payer office.
And Mr. Phiri said ZRAs partnership with Investment Climate Facility for Africa (ICF) in mid 2010 has helped it achieve three deliverable s.
These include the implementation of a call centre, customer service training and the review of the communication strategy.
And officially opening the one day workshop, Kitwe district commissioner Macdonald Mtine said the procurement of an integrated tax administration system has come at a time when the MMD government has ushered Zambia into a middle income status 19 years ahead of the vision 2030.
He also commended ZRA for holding a stakeholder engagement workshop.
Mr. Mtine said ZRAs investment in customer relationship management through the stakeholder engagement is a demonstration of its commitment to modern business practices.
He urged ZRA to make full use of the workshop to explain to the public the importance of contributing to the economy through taxes further advising tax payers to present the various challenges they are facing when it comes to compliance.
Stakeholder representative Fanwell Banda who is also Mine suppliers and contractors association president also applauded ZRA for deciding to engage stakeholders in issues relating to tax payment.
