A 62 year old grandmother is nursing serious injuries sustained after being hit by an MMD campaign vehicle preceding Ruphia Banda’s convoy last week.
Eliansa Kyabanya Kikando of Highland compound was hit by a Mazda light truck registration number ALC 4984 driven by an MMD Official only identified as Mulofwa and sustained suspected broken ribs, swollen feet and cracked bones in the left leg.
According to her son, Shimo Kikando, Eliansa who is admitted to Solwezi General Hospital’s Kabompo Ward, a high cost section, was walking home with her sister, when she was hit by the branded MMD light truck about 4 meters off the road at a curve on airport road as vehicles sped from Solwezi Airstrip following President Banda’s arrival for a series of rallies in North Western province last Tuesday.
Kikando complained that MMD officials had ignored the plight of his mother despitebeing aware of the gravity of her condition which he said could be dangerous as the hospital had , by Sunday, not yet conducted a comprehensive appraisal of her injuries.
He said since MMD Solwezi Central candidate Lucky Mulusa visited Eliansa and refunded the K500,000 admission fee paid by the family in the high cost section last wednesday, no party official had returned.
Kikando said when he tried to talk to MMD North Western province chairperson Pinakin Patel, the latter expressed ignorance over the issue and said he was busy with president banda’s visit and could not commit himself to any help.
But Patel described Kikando as a ‘Cantankerous boy’ who wanted to take advantage of MMD because of the elections saying some cadres had gone to the hospital to check on Eliansa but Kikando was chasing them.

Pinakin Patel I know you as a reasonable person and being a person yourself who have been in an accident and survived it, you should be more sympathetic with this boy if not for him for the sake of the victim. The boy can’t just chase your cadres without any reason, find out why.
