MMD Plunderers Must Account For Abused Gov’t Funds And Be Brought To Book, State Urged

The Zambia Youths Association in the fight against corruption ZYAFAC has urged the Michael Sata led government to ensure that plunderers in the previous government are brought to book.
ZYAFAC executive director Rickson Kanema says Zambians had seen how public funds, motor vehicles and other public resources were being abused with impunity by the former ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy MMD.
Mr. Kanema states that Zambians had no choice but to watch helplessly because of lack of political will by former president Rupiah Banda, who he says authorized looting by removing the abuse of office clause from the Anti-Corruption Commission Act.
He says his association wants to see justice prevail as quickly as possible by ensuring that all culprits in the former ruling party and civil servants are brought to book and all plundered resources retrieved and given back to the state so that Zambians can benefit.
Mr. Kanema says it is gratifying to note that during the campaigns President Sata made it very clear that once the party was in power, corruption would be fought vigorously without fear or favour.
He says leaders from the Movement for Multiparty Democracy have to account on how they managed public affairs.
Mr. Kanema says that it is good that the Rupiah Banda administration confessed that they did not listen to the people and must now be made to account.
