Republican President Michael Chilufya Sata has nominated more MPs than he is allowed by the constitution, Tumfweko understands.
The current Zambian constitution allows the president to nominate at most 8 MPs at any given time but Sata has appointed 10.
The relevant part of the constitution says ‘the President may, at any time after a general election to the National Assembly and before the National Assembly is next dissolved, appoint such number of persons as he considers necessary to enhance the representation in the National Assembly as regards special interests or skills, to be nominated members of the National Assembly, so, however, that there are not more than eight such members at any onetime.’
But Sata has appointed Bob Sichinga, Ngosa Siambukula, John Phiri, Panji Kaunda, Samuel Mukupa, Sebastian Zulu, Willie Nsanda, Alexander Chikwanda, Solomon Mbuzi and Joseph Kasonde.
All the nominated MPs have been appointed as either ministers or deputy ministers.
Info trooping tumfweko is that the President is contemplating on dropping one of the ministers just appointed.
that willl be one
September 29, 2011 at 6:46 pm
Dropping one means still one extra.
10-1=9
We need 10-2=8
Drop Two of them and wait for bye elections.

Our new president is action oriented and I am sure he means well and will do much better than MMD under RB. But he shall have good advisers and the ones that are comfortable in life and “call a spade a spade”. They shall have independent mind and as strong as Mr. Sata is.

The president must drop Alexander Chikwanda and Bob Sichinga. In their place elevate two deputy Ministers. He should fire his principal private secretary, Mr. Chalabesa for misguiding him.

We pray that God will grant our President Sata wisdom in the appointment of key people to work with him as a team for a better Zambia. We should not wish him to fail but we should pray him for instead. Because whatever decision he is going to make will have consequences on us as a nation. We must not say every mistake is a foolish one. One wise man once said, Laughing at our mistakes can lengthen our own life. Laughing at someone else’s can shorten it.
We’re all capable of mistakes, but I do not care to enlighten you on the mistakes we may or may not have made. Burns also said, Assert your right to make a few mistakes. If people can’t accept your imperfections, that’s their fault.
Let us really pray for him.

Well at last things are happening. At top speed. This is not your ordinary, laid back, run of the mill and pedestrian president. He hasn’t changed a little bit from his governor days. The opposition must very very strong to keep him in check, but I doubt it with the MMD about to be extinct or jailed and the UNDP so childish and immature, they won’t be able to contain and keep the cobra in his place. They will rather prefer to moan and whine about Bemba hegemony and other nonsense. Please, the man means business. He really wants to take Zambia forward, help him by at least being respectful and less emotional in your writings, you are journalists after all, not cadres. The man you call kaponya, has won the presidence hands down, beating so-called educated incumbents who have failed to deliver in 50 years of governance. What kanshi do you want? He has promised to do something to lift Zambia from its ****** status as a poor country to something you will at least be proud of. So he is the man of the moment, please let him get cracking and do his job.

It depends which constitution he uses. The Mwanakatwe constitution said 10 while the Chiluba 1996 version said 8-10.
There is no breach here you just need to read between the lines.
