Prominent Lusaka Lawyer Roger Chongwe has hailed the stance taken by winning MMD Chongwe Member of Parliament Japhen Mwakalombe to resign from his position.
Speaking in an interview, Dr. Chongwe says the move by Mr. Mwakalombe is an act of responsibility as he won the Chongwe seat using underhand methods.
Dr. Chongwe states that the victory of Mr. Mwakalombe did not reflect the will of the people in the Constituency and that his decision to give up the seat should be commended.
But Zambia Rainbow Coalition president Cleophas Phiri has condemned Mr. Mwakalombe’s decision to resign as Member of Parliament.
Mr. Phiri who has described as unfortunate the move by Mr. Mwakalombe says leaders should exercise seriousness in issues of democracy and governance.
He says Mr. Mwakalombe’s decision will be viewed as a betrayal to the many electorates who entrusted their confidence in him as their representative in the National Assembly.
Mr. Mwakalombe announced his resignation as an elected Member of Parliament for Chongwe constituency on Thursday stating that it will be difficult for him as an opposition parliamentarian to carry out development in the area.
Meanwhile, Mr. Phiri has commended the move by Republican President Michael Sata to downsize Cabinet from 22 ministers to 19.
He says what is important is the caliber and capacity of those appointed as cabinet ministers to perform according to the expectations of Zambians.

THE MAN HAS JUST ACTED ON PRINCIPAL AND HAS A HEART FOR THE PEOPLE WHOM HIS FORMER RULING PARTY DENIED DEVELOPEMENT IN THIS SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCE. HE HAS JUST TOLD US IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAT WHAT GOES AROUND COMES…. BUT I FEEL HE IS WRONG TO COMPARE BANDA PRES FOR ALL ZAMBIANS THAT VOTED FOR HIM AND MICHEAL SATA PRES FOR ALL ZAMBIANS INDEED.

This is funny… Mmd members are scared to carry on. This will make the ruling party somewhat lazy??. When P.f was opposition, they did not resign ~their members~, but they carried on pushing. This is where its all clearly stated that, they have been cheating all along. He resigned because he does not have what it takes to be an M.p for the people of Zambia. And please dont give him juice….

He is a clown and should never be voted again. People should exercise some seriousness in National matters. Alot of tax payers money is used for elections we can’t have politicians doing their thing like they were in their Kitchens. This is the reason why RB lost, losing respect to the people and thinking he can do as he wishes.

This guy is openly telling us that though he won, the people want Sylvia – but he doesn’t know whether any rigging was involved – very dull theory & ****** excuse.
I wonder whether he is really allowed to resign??? I thought you could only relinquish a seat by a] not recontesting at next election, b] quitting your party, leaving the seat vacant. ECZ should take this guy to task for wasting tax payers money for an election which after winning he has walked away from. You CAN’T GIVE A SEAT TO YOUR RELATIVE-EVEN YOUR SISTER, THAT IS AN OUTRIGHT DEPARTURE FROM DEMOCRACY. He should await the outcome of the appeal/challenge, if he loses, Police should then investigate his involvement in rigging, he has nothing to fear, if he wasn’t involved.

Mwakalombe has made an appropriate decision befitting a patriotic citizen. It all shows that the MMD was indeed a very corrupt and insensitive grouping of selfish people. I think they even fraudulently robbed Chipata and Kafulafuta of their preferred candidates Lameck Mangani and Patrick Mwanawasa respectively. No stone will be left unturned as Sata is now the captain that the nation so desired. MMD will never rule Zambia.

As time goes, majority of Zambians will feel MMD’s loss in in the just ended 2011 election.
For now they are still busy with celebrations of SATA’s victory.

Today, the most dissapointed citizens in America after 2008 elections are the black (african) americans.
The reason is very simple; they over trusted and over-expeted from Obama, yet they have met with the worst economic hostility of their time.
MMD supporters and reservists who dont expect much from SATA’s leadership have their hearts well guarded.
I pity the street boys and the youths and their Kaponya (both educated and uneducated) group of individuals who see SATA as a saviour.
Because these groups will forget to use their nice English accents, and begin to cry in proverbial venacular.

If rigging did take place, all those involved should be punished and i hope VJ was involved so that we wipe the old fool from Zambian political scene scene once and for all.

Fine u are such a low life.Sata is now in charge SO DEAL with it!!!.RB has been Zambia’s worst President from the time this country gained it’s indepedence. The people of Zambia have rejected him and his party and sent him into retirement!RB had no vison for this country,he had no foresight what so ever.I would therefore advise u(FINE) to accept defeat and allow his H.E Mr. Micheal Chilfya Sata to lead us and bring about sanity to this country which has been distroyed by the corrupt MMD!!!
