PATRIOTIC Front (PF) losing Mkushi South parliamentary candidate in the September 20 elections, Davies Chisopa has said he will petition the results, alleging anomalies by the winning candidate Sydney Chisanga from MMD.
Mr Chisopa alleged in Lusaka yesterday that Mr Chisanga and his agents had engaged in rampant violation of the electoral regulations, thereby influencing the voters’ choice.
“The papers are already with the lawyers and either tomorrow or Tuesday this week the petition process will start before the High Court.
“I have decided to petition the result in the Lusaka High Court because I strongly believe that my opponent, Mr Chisanga did not genuinely win the elections as he and/or his agents violated the electoral regulations,” Mr Chisopa said in a statement.
He said the rule of law which President Michael Sata’s Government had embarked on would take its course, adding that the will of the people should prevail.
“Prior and during the elections there was a lot of intimidation and vote-buying by the then ruling party candidate and/or his agents on the ground, which may have influenced the voters’ decision.
“Mr Chisanga, who was re-contesting the seat, engaged in a lot of voter inducement activities which I will be able to prove before the court because I have concrete evidence,” he said.
He further alleged that some registered voters were disenfranchised by Mr Chisanga and his agents who threatened them not to go and vote or they would face some consequences because they were perceived to PF supporters.

Chipata Central MMD MP also did not genuinely win the elections. There is a lot connected to his victory, yet to be known as PF Mangani is petitioning. Zambian democracy is growing well so we dont want MPs who won through dubious means. What about the Liberty trucks ferrying voters from other constituencies to Chipata Central Constituency? Mtolo Phiri be ready for a by-election.
