MMD Road Contracts To Be ‘Screened’ As Part Of ‘Clean Up Program’ As Opposition MP’s Refuse RB And HH ‘Scheme’ To Frustrate Development

VICE-PRESIDENT Guy Scott has said the on-going road construction projects will be reviewed as part of the new Government’s roadmap to track the levels of corruption and promote transparency in the governance of the country.

Dr Scott said in Lusaka yesterday that the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) was also on the list of institutions to be audited to determine the levels of transparency in paying farmers

He said contractors working on the roads should not be jittery if they did not engage in questionable contracts and urged Zambians to give the new Government chance to work on its promises.

Dr Scott said there were reports that some contractors were given jobs worth K2 billion per kilometre, which he described as irregular.

He said the Patriotic Front administration wanted all the matters dealt with so that in cases where irregularities were detected, the law should take its course.

The vice-president said the Government would not cancel any contract if there was no corruption involved in the process of awarding tenders.

He also said FRA would be audited to determine the levels of transparency in paying farmers.

“There will be a lot of inquiries as we go to work. We want to confirm how much FRA really owes the farmers and how the money for the farmers is generally being accounted for,” Dr Scott said.

Meanwhile, some MMD and United Party for National Development (UPND) members of Parliament (MPs) have rejected a scheme in which the two political parties want to launch an impeachment motion against President Michael Sata when Parliament resumes sittings.

Dr Scott said the Government had been receiving delegations of MPs who had made it clear that they would not support the motion if it was called.

He said the ruling party was receiving a lot of good will, adding that it was clear that the bills in Parliament would have support from independent MPs, MMD and UPND.

Dr Scott said the eight nominated MPs, some MMD MPs who had been appointed as deputy ministers and the ones he described as progressive would work with the ruling party to fend off attempts to frustrate the Government.

He said the Government wanted to fight corruption, reduce poverty and pass the Freedom of Information Bill in Parliament and wondered what sense it made to fight such efforts.

if the finished MMD and UPND have nothing left to salvage their conspicuous personalities since there are no morals to talk about, they should be flashed out of the house. After all only UPND MPs can survive if we were to advocate for petitions of the just ended tripartite elections.

Public funds were used to campaign and there is no single MMD constituency that can survive a petition. They should just behave when they get to the house. We don’t want ifyabupuba from these losers.

Let Sata rule.UPND is a small party full of jokes and tribalism.why should u expect Sata to appoint a person from Southern who never even campaigned and voted for him?.U choose MPs from where u’ve won.the president could only appoint 8 ministers.I think tribal politics should be stoped.UPND is made up of tongas and one kaonde.If HH continue with this underfive behavior, he will never be a president of zambia.The underfive came into politics thru tribalism and is today saying Sata has just appointed bembas from northen and luapula.In luapula Sata only picked sakeni and bwalya.In northen the only bemba is GMB.Sichinga,walombe and silavwe are mambwes and lungus.I think UPND should be very careful coz most people are getting annoyed with underfive.I’m eastern but i don’t agree with HH.he should know that the Ila name,bemaba,lamba,kaonde,lunda are the same.he should take his ignoranvce to southern where they practise tribalism.

It’s very unfortunate that HH should even think about such a thing. The people of zammbia rejected the MMD and gave a chance to Sata to rule. Who are they to start scheming ways of circumventing the people’s will. We shall rise and crash them. MMD should know that those attempts are worse than rigging and shall not be allowed. As for HH if you ever want to rule, associate urself with the will of the people. If you try to be like RB who never listened, you will have no one to blame but urself. This is not time to start retrogressive schemes. This Govt has so much work to do to correct the ills of the MMD.

I feel bad about this young baby HH.The man doesn’t know that people voted for Sata.
It is just 10days since Pf came into power but the baby(HH)is busy critizing PF for fighting corruption.
where on earth can a principled person support kayuka(ACC) and ERB?Fuel is too expensive in Zambia.

After the death of Mazoka prominent UPND people came out openly that only a tonga would succeed Mazoka ei mwananjiti,madyeku and other UPND top officials.
This is what happened.Lubinda,sikota,Inonge,chisanga,Sichinga,mtonga and other people left UPND coz of tribal remarks from HH and his supporters.
panji also left UPND coz of the same.Hachipuka,chizyuka,matongo and other founder members of UPND have said the same.

I see the end of MMD pretty soon. UNIP had historic background. If that can go into oblivion, what is MMD before it? MMD was a movement for change but it became a stumbling block and a noose on the young and hardworking Zambians. MMD under chiluba and rb was a drain on national resources and a movement to amass wealth for a few elites.

The audit of FRA operations are long overdue. MMD used the FRA steal money through payments to fake famers, contractors, transporters and outright theft by employees. Proffessor Lovejoy Malambo and his predecessor Dr. Anthony Mwanaumo have a lot to answer for..

I also urge Guy Scott to probe Mike Mulongoti for his role in syphoning money from the RDA for the MMD. Even though he is now PF, the law must not discriminate if he is found wanting.. PF filled in MP candidates in all the 150 constituents (9 provinces). Of the 62 PF MPs who won, none of them was from NW or Southern province. These pipo rejected their own brothers under the PF ticket. How do you expect, the presido, Mr Sata to pick up losing candidates at the expence of the winning candidates.
