President Michael Sata has fired all the Seventy three (73) District Commissioners and appointed civil servants to take over the positions.
The President has since directed all the dismissed district commissioners to vacate office and government homes with immediate effect.
President Sata says the District Commissioners should not be affiliated to any political party.
State House has produced a list of recommended civil servants to be appointed as District Commissioners.
And President Sata has dissolved the boards of Zambia Revenue Authority, ZESCO and the National Pensions Scheme Authority -NAPSA.
Mr Sata has also retired ZESCO Managing Director, Ernest Mupwaya and has replaced him with the former chief Executive Officer Cyprian Chitundu.
President Sata says Mr Mupwaya was dubiously appointed as Managing Director of ZESCO.
Mr Sata was speaking at State House on Monday during the swearing ceremony of Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and the new Inspector General of Police.

if leaders do things to serve the interest of the public, there can be no need to point fingers at one another.but because some individuals want to enrich themselves out of the positions they hold hence blaming one other all the time.and because of this fact H.E mr MICHEAL CHILUFYA SATA should forge ahead to clean up all the dirty of this good country zambia especially on corruption.this country belongs to zambians but why should only people with money benefit alone, when are we going to have a piece of the national cake.we just see figures of coppers prices rising and falling but no impact the a zambian like me and u we are tired and i wonder if the government of mmd was not seen this to be wrong.time is up we need to benefit equally for this is our country all.

Mr President needs to sort out the guys at immigration, that’s where the rot is. If they did their job properly you would not have unskilled labour coming into the country posing as investors. Fitters and boiler makers? What happened to the criteria of Jobs only going to foreigners where there is no Zambian national to fill the role?

Good move! But why not advertise the jobs to the public and let the civil service do the appointments instead of State House again? No need for smoke screen, Boss.

Mupwaya had sucrificed alot of fellow employees of get to that position. He fired 85 employees in Ndola in 2008 saying they were PF suppoters. The new government should help these former Zesco employees get their jobs back.

This is good Mr President, but for trnasparency’s sake, don’t you think it would have been better if the positions were advertised to civil servants and get the qualified one for the position of DC.
its a wake up call indeed for Zambians…

i agree with chikondi. the jobs must be given on merit and the more transparent way is to advertise them to all zambians coz we all need thez jobs.

I agree, the vacant positions must be advertised so that only people can compete on a level playing ground. People must be appointed on merit and must have a proven track record forbeing result oriented. Tatulefwaya ba Mr/Mrs/Ms KUPE, you know the type that reports for work in the morning, hangs the jacket/jersey behind the office chair and sneaks off to do their own PJs!.

Yes the vacant posts should be advertised so that all qualified people can apply. Where did state house get those people. Of course they are members of one political party and definetely not MMD
