Lusaka Judge Dr.Patrick Matibini is the new Speaker of the National Assembly.
Matibini, who was nominated by the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) was declared winner on Thursday morning by the returning officer of the National Assembly Doris Mwiinga.
The new Speaker beat his rival United Party for National Development (UPND) Vice President, Richard Kapita who was nominated by the opposition.
At the time of voting 155 members of the house were present giving Matibini 78 and Kapita 77 votes respectively.
In a Speech the newly elected Speaker expressed happiness at being chosen to preside over the parliament business and pledged to work and serve with diligence and integrity.
Congratulating Matibini, Vice President Guy Scott said he was happy with the choice of the house and expressed confidence that the Speaker will ensure all Members of Parliament (MPs) are treated fairly and enjoy equal rights and privileges.
Meanwhile, Lundazi Member of Parliament (MP) Mukondo Lungu is the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and emerged victorious unopposed.
Mwiinga also announced that Chasefu MP Chifumu Banda is to take up the role of the Deputy Chairperson of Committees owing to the fact that he was the only candidate nominated for the position

What does the victory of Judge Matibini who was proposed by the PF, tell Hakainde? It tells him that there may be people whom he thinks they are supporting his ideologies and yet they are not. Why do i say so? Pf members are only 60 but those who have voted for Matibini are 78. Where has the 18members come from? Ofcourse 10from Upnd and 8 nominated members from mmd. So Hakainde should be careful in the way he wants to deal with mmd. I believe Shikapwasha voted for Matibini because he is a member at his church. Jesus Is Life church in Makeni Bornaventure. Fire on the mountain new speaker of the national assembly tell Hakainde?

Guys it’s like when u get married with limited tools/house hold goods, you have to use what you have and slowly fill you house as you settle. Sata is picking from what he has slowly all will be included. in the meantime the house has to function you’ve got to eat you wont wait until your house/home is filled up.

UPND and MMD went into the parliamentary pact so that they can choose their cadre as speaker and thereby frustrate the policies of PF govt. But God is great and cannot allow these finished parties to hinder the work of the new govt.

I know that Hon. Dr. Matibini is not Bemba. Did u also know that Sata is not Bemba but Bisa from Mpika? Some more information for u ba Kunda: Bembas are from Chinsali, Kasama, Luwingu & Mporokoso. Furthermore, there are no Bembas in Luapula but Luundas; Bwiles; Chishingas; Ushis etc.
Mistaking Bisas for Bembas is as good as mistaking Toka-Leyas for Tongas; Nkoyas for Lozis; Luvales for Lundas; Luchazis for Chokwes. So bro (sis) Kunda let us think beyond tribe and way beyond our noses. Concentrate on how much u can do for mother Zambia than what Zambia can do for you.
I know Dr. Matibini when I was a minority shareholder of Standard Chartered Bank Plc. The man is qualified – PERIOD.

“Stand up against tribalism” You are a tribalist yourself. To you anyone from Northen Zambia is Bemba. Pipo lets grow up. In any case, how do you expect the president to know pipo who did not support him. Be visible you will be appointed if you have a spine.
Some of you guys are “Heamophiliacs who bleed to death once nicked by the real world”

Congrats Bro./Dr. Matibini. Am so proud of you. Your legal voice on many issues of national importance was never silent. This also is victory for PF, the people’s voice. Crying babies like HH should now come to terms that Zambia has little space for them. May Jehovah, God Almighty, protect and guide you, Bro. Matibini.

Word of Advise to HH.
Your continuous association with the MMD is just denting your image.
Another blow on you.Kapita has lost because your motives were ill.MMD guys are desparate to cover their dirt.Maybe you are equally dirty.
Start thinking of how positively you can start opposing the PF and not out of jealousy. You were given a chance but you threw it because of your greed for power. You still have time to divorce MMD and build your image.
