SATA Declines Malawi COMESA Invitation For Being Bundled Into A Land Rover And Driven To The Zambian Border For Being Opposition Then

Republican President Michael Sata has declined the invitation to attend the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) heads of state summit to be hosted by Malawi.
Speaking when the new Malawi High Commissioner to Zambia presented his credentials and a congratulatory message this morning, the president said he finds it very difficult to travel to Malawi after being deported in 2006, by the then Bakili Muluzi government.
“Your government bundled me into a Land Rover and drove me to the Zambian border because I was opposition. Your government has never bothered to apologize. Natural justice demands that a person be heard before the courts of law. I therefore find it extremely difficult to travel to Malawi,” said the President.
Zambia will be represented at the summit by Vice President Guy Scott and other senior Government officials.

Correction: Please note and check your records: Muluzi was not in govt in 2006. He left in 2004. It is the Bingu government that bundled Sata into a landrover.

Ba tumfweko cross check articles before posting them. Bakili Muluzi’s term ended in 2004. It was Bingu who directed the deportation of our president, not because he had no visa(which he had) he was labeled PI. Lets remember that Bakili was under investigation for abuse of office. That side, it was reported differently.

I think no Zambian official should enter Malawi for any business at all. The DokTech you are spot on. It was Mutarika who deported his Excellence after we provided a haven for him when he was General Secretary for PTA then. He was accused of laundering Taiwanese money through Malawi for his political activities. We definitely don’t need Malawi for anything – someone correct me if we need Malawi for anything.

Each day that passes, I become more proud to have voted for Sata. Indeed, he is a true leader and leading by example. He has done very well to shun Mbingu’s invitation. Mbingu had really misbehaved upon acting on Rubbish Bin’s(RB)instructions to have Sata deported in a very disgraceful way. Mbingu thought Zambians had hate for Sata and wanted to start interfering with our local politics. Shame on you Mr Mbingu Wamutarika! Zambia like U.S.A,It is a civilised nation. U.S.A has black President while Zambia has a white vice-President. Come on Mbingu, apologise for mistreating our President!

I was deeply saddened by the deportation of our own Michael by the Malawian govt, but the truth of the matter is that it was our govt, under late Levy Mwanawasa that instigated the stupid move. Meanwhile, what did Wamutarika come for when he met Ruphia (would-be convict) in Chipata a few months ago?

The president has made a wise decision. I find the regime in Malawi un democratic and the depotation has not been revoked just as the reasons have not been said. It was all political with the thot that nothing like this will ever hapen. They forget that Zambians have been the trend setters in the past. The next to go will be Mutharika. He is a Dictator. We dont need Malawi any how. We can do without. They can go to hell if they dont apologise.

Our very own honoured president Michael thinks proper. Some governments in africa lack morals and the rule of law. Let Malawi apologise for mistreating our president in those days. The Malawi Government should not be naive to think that such an issue can just slide and forgotten. Thumbs up Your Excellency

Principled president at work! Still in the country, unlike the previous, by now he could have toured more than five countries! I ask the current Malawian government to swallow their pride and apologise. An apology isn’t synonymous to stupidity or foolishness. It’s just a way to recognise that we’re humans prone to error. It’s humility at service when one apologises.

It was very unwise on part of our govt to deport Sata. Surely the least Bingu can do is to apologize to HE Sata. But knowing the arrogance and ego in Bingu, I do not see him apologizing directly. Zambia is the only country that has so much cultural links with Malawi. It is wrong for political leaders to break this link. Almost everyone in Malawi is now angry with Bingu.

It is out order for some people on this forum to generalize this shameful Bingu act to all Malawians. As others have rightly said, economically, Zambia can do without Malawi but so can Malawi. Apart from the deep cultural links between the two brotherly nations, there is very little economic activities going either way. If Zambia were either Tanzania or Mozambique (Malawi heavily depends on their ports), by now Malawi would have been feeling the pinch as a result of this stupid decision by our useless Bingu. This however, does not undermine the importance of Malawi and Zambia to each other. The borders between Malawi and Zambia are but artificial. Otherwise we are one people. Let politicians not make us enemies.

Its time we brought back ‘Clean-Up’ operastion to arret and deport all illigal European and West African aliens who are corrupting our nmorals and destroying natonal economic growth.

It is not Muluzi who deported Sata but this current president (Mthalika) because Sata went to Malawi to see Muluzi, who was retired president by then. The guy thought they will be discussing him. It was really disappointing as Sata was dropped at the border as a thief by the police and was declared Persona Non Grata (PNG)

I think, its better we send Chishimba Kambwili to Malawi to go and represent Zambia. Chishimba is also fearless and I’m sure he will tell the Malawians off, just like he has been telling the Chinese. And also, Chishimba will tell the Malawians to remove their boarder post from the Zambian side and take it to where it used to be. Zambians are suffering at the hands of Malawian Immigration staff when the want to go to Vubwi or Mwami Hospital because they cross two boader points and usually the Malawian Imigration staff are very hostile. Whoever gave permission to let the Malawians shift their boader should be probed because that was like Zaire selling Zambia the pedicle land.
