‘Jobs For Sale’ Graft At Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) Exposed

Tumfweko has unearthed a  graft in which some human resource personnel at Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) in Kitwe on the Copperbelt Province are employing people when they are ‘given’ (Bribed with) a K 3,000,000.
In short, ‘Its Jobs for Sale’.
Tumfweko sources have disclosed that some Human Resource Personnel have ‘planted people’ who look for individuals seeking employment in the mining firm to lure them into finding money, then they pay them so that in return they get employed.
This has brought ‘uneasy’ amongst those who can not afford to raise a K 3 Million to bribe them in-order for them to get employed.
“I just graduated and the man says, i look for a K3 Million so that am given the job. Now, where will i get the money to bribe them because that’s too much. Does it mean if you are poor and don’t have money but you have good qualification then you don’t deserve to be employed ?,” one of the victims asked Tumfweko.
Insiders have also disclosed to Tumfweko that, as long as one has the financial muscle, then s/he will get the job even though the professional qualification are questionable.
“If one is not (a relative) related to one of the ‘big fishes’ in management then nothing is for free. It’s not fair especially when you are qualified for that particular job,” the insider said.
“We want transparency in the recruitment of workforce and not what we see here. Some Jobs when they advertise, are just formalities because they have already employed. This system has been going on for some time now and we are tired, our qualified friends and relatives are being denied the opportunity just because they cant pay ‘something’, it’s not fair,” said the insider.
Relevant authorities are since called to clean up this mess.

mines are another eyesore when it comes to corruption. even in cases of contract awarding. we are told that to win a tender in the mines you have to cough up millions of kwachas before you are considered for the same. the level of corruption in the mines is alarming. HE MCS must hear this.

    October 10, 2011 at 8:01 am

This rumour has been there for quite some time and the internal Mopani CID has been investigating this and some culprits have been fired e.g Bwalya of Mufulira. I never exprienced this when getting into mopani. Substantiate this allegation. Some friend who works in HR has always been chased after on suspicion of the same when he is not evven involved.

Thats why i question the caliber of some people employed. I always think; is this the best person they could pick from the interviewees. Nepotism is also a big issue in MCM

Its not just mopani. GRZ ministries are the worst especially ministry of Education. A transfer from cannot move from one office to another witohut oiling it cash. My wife has been pushing for a transfer nd she has been released by the sch head but the HR personnel are holding it. My frends wife had a qucik transfer and told me its because money was involved. Sata can deal with you but if my God deals with you, it will be erternal agony

Please tumfweko keep on exposing these companies. There also some companies that are treating people like they are working as garden boys. People talk about safety at mines this includes zero tolerance to alcohol zero harm to persons working at mines. What about corruption?

  26. KCM MINER

    October 10, 2011 at 8:56 am

Even here at KCM it is worse. I will give an example at the IT department. For a student to be offerred an attachment he has to pay something like two million Kwacha. What is happenning in this department is that those students who have graduated are being offered attachments and they get some allowances. Normaly attachments are for three to six months but some have been on these so called attachments for more than two years. What a stinking country.

It is interesting that we are waking up to the impact and extent of the scourge. Why it never happened in the previuos Gov is a wonder. Is it because they knew nobody lisend? So many hidden things have been exposed.HR corruption is pretty easy to investigate and close. It can not take a lot of resources.Evidence can easily be obtained. So I advise everyone to take patiece as we paddle. The boat is still in Lusaka ,copperbelt take it easy as u know Lusaka has a complex network of thiefs to clean up in a day.Other pronvinces are a easy go. Cheer will be docking soon!

my goodness @mark f!!!! Man work on your language. A lot of people read these blogs and one may wonder how you were raised. God is there and you’re bringing bad luck to yourself, you’re a human being. As for Moponi issue, we all feel bad and am very sure with the new Government, frustrated people like mark f with x-amount of insults will have something to do well. New Government has really emphasized on fighting corruption and most of all improve on the churches in the country as well. Thumbs up to all those with blogs without insults!!!!!

    Mopani:

    – to be registered as supplier/contractor: US$2,000.00.
    – To get an enquiry: a lot of booze and an accounted for cash.
    – When you get order: 10% of order value to buyer and end user on receitp of order.

    What a mess.

Dont leave the fight against corruption to Sata, it should be all of us. Madam Chiwele at NAPSA has given us an example. If we leave everything to Sata, he will fail just like the late president was fighting it alone while RB was waiting for an opportunity.

true that, this culture has been there as way back as 2003, i even reached a point of thinking that in this life, honesty does not pay at all but who you know and how much you are willing to pay. Many simply gave in but i would love to think that many still resisted. Please clean up this mess.

  44. Fulwe

    October 11, 2011 at 11:27 am

Ba Tumfweko I agree with you there is a lot of corruption at Mopani. Buyers, Engineers, Materials Coordinators the list is endless. I can name some buyers who have been very cruel to my company. Please dig dipper I will help you with some hints, they get an upfront front from some suppliers and then they will deduct 10% from the orders they generate. The corruption at Mopani is the worst I have ever come across, security has been compromised.

  45. THE CRYING FREE MAN

    October 11, 2011 at 11:41 am

No wonder we see these SOBS’ driving around in posh cars they have even bought their beaches expensive cars, houses and all sorts of expensive gifts and they themselves own a countless # of houses and one wonders how somebody so young could afford to have so many riches in such a short period of time. Surely this country stinks of corruption and it needs to be cleaned with SATA’s annointing oil!!.

  46. Fulwe

    October 11, 2011 at 11:44 am

Sata should direct ACC to Mopani. They should start with Security then the whole entire buying and contracts section. These boys & girls have killed the spirit of hard work. What goes up must come down. What these boys & girls are doing is out of the corporate world. All of us MUST be clean. They are not following buying ethics. They have deliberately disregarded the tender closing dates and times. When you refuse to offer them the 10% they demand upon issuing of a purchase order, then that is the beginning of your frustrations and misery for your company. They behave as if they own Mopani. It’s high time the new government to sweep and clean this country.
