THE Football Association of Zambia stands to pay dismissed Chipolopolo coach Dario Bonetti and his staff over K5 billion as separation package.
FAZ terminated the contract of Bonetti on Monday, 48 hours after the Italian guided Zambia to a 15th Africa Cup of Nations final in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea 2012.
Although FAZ general secretary George Kasengele claimed the decision to sack the trainer was mutual between the two parties, Bonetti has a different story – he was merely informed by FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya his contract had been terminated.
If the status quo remains that Bonetti did not agree to this separation, he will not regret his next trip to the bank, irrespective of how long it takes.
Bonetti was pocketing about K135 million a month.
The Italian says qualification to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations gives him an automatic one-year contract extension.
By implication, Bonetti still has an additional 12 months to the initial contract that was due to expire in July 2012.
Since FAZ may have no reasonable cause for Bonetti’s exit, they would have to pay out his remaining 22 months totalling about K3.6 billion.
His assistants collectively pocket about K1.9 billion annually.
Bonetti has an option to report the matter to FIFA if FAZ fails to pay his dues and the world soccer mother body will gladly withhold its US $500, 000 annual grant to Zambia.
That was ex-Zambia trainer Burkhad Ziese ultimate benefit when his contract was prematurely terminated by Zambian football authorities.

FAZ should have avoided the expense on premature termination of the contract,by appointing a local trainer to assit him side by side. This person should have tried to frastrate him ,the man would have given up and not what happened were our local zambian coach gave up. the cash is too much to lose.wake up kalu and kase.

Zambia is filthy rich. But look at the way we suffer while Boneti is getting that much. Why having such idle leaders who can not analytically go through issues such as darios contract and think through. While our clinics have got no panados.Someone was getting k 135 million per month.shame on you who had an input in darios contract.

Is Zambia surely independent? Hard working poor workers that struggle to afford a loaf of bread get peanuts for their hard work, whilst a foreigner is paid billions for being a tourist in our country. ZK4bn would have done alot for Zambia. “I wonder, Is It bcoz wi blakk?”- Mutaba Rukka.

This iz all the more reazon why there waz an agitation to replace the graet Kalu’z team. FAZ should have lawyerz and economists(or indeed they can hire) within their ranks to see to the smooth handling of contracts to the satisfaction of both partiez at any one given time and situation. Hope it’s not true we will pay Bonetti K5bn(almost our budget to Equatorial/Guinea outing)

The previous gov’t where d*cks zoona for paying that much money toa struggling performer. Did they even take the necessary steps to hire him? They should foot the bill themselves.
Also FAZ are to blame for allowing such a situation when they are actual administrators of football in the nation.
Negotiate a reasonable seperation fee with Dario and engage a local coach and emulate his pay to that of Bonetti’s. Better plan way forward!!!!

Football coaches seem to accept jobs here knowing very well that they will not finish their contracts and would be fired less than half way through the contract and make a killing out of us. Can there not be a close in the contracts that safeguards the hard earned taxpayer’s money? When was the last time a football coach finished his (as there are no hers) contract? Are these coaches really hired on merit or on how much they are willing to give to the hiring authority when they are fired before the end of the contract. As my son says “the plays first language is their mother tongue and have problems in communicating in English, to make matters worse, the couch hired can only communicate well with people in his home country and his English (or any Zambian language for that matter is none existent) is very limited”. How do you expect such a person to communicate with the player? Can a player pay attention to sign language while he is chasing the ball NO. FAZ should do something about this.

October 11, 2011 at 3:30 pm
the only plausible way to solve this problem is to implore faz to make bonnetti’s contract public.
we should know who eneganged him and terms agreed on.
if it is rb & sons co. then our govt should move in and make them pay the coach.
why should we tax payers continue suffering like this due to a irresponsible family.
what they have stolen from our coffers is more than enough. let them pay him period.
