ZESCO Directors Fired, As SATA Suspends Egyptian Company ‘Milking’ Zambians

Cyprian Chitundu

ZESCO has terminated the contracts of all the seven directors that worked under former managing director Ernest Mupwaya with immediate effect.
The firm’s new managing director Cyprian Chitundu confirmed in an interview at his office last evening that the seven have already been replaced.
Mr Chitundu said the changes are normal and that the new management team has a new vision and a new direction.
“I can confirm that all the seven directors have been relieved of their duties. We are trying to set a certain standard and so we need fresh people,” Mr Chitundu said.
He said some of the former directors worked well, but that in every company, all the leaders need to have shared vision for the organisation to move forward.
Mr Chitundu said the new vision that the company is set to achieve has necessitated these changes and that they will bring development to the nation and also help the company to grow.
Meanwhile, President Michael Sata has suspended the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) commissioner general Wisdom Nhekairo and his commissioner of customs Mukela Mutukwa to pave way for investigations.
President Sata was speaking yesterday at State House after the swearing-in ceremony for the ZAF commander that he has suspended the two commissioners at ZRA to pave way for thorough investigations.
He said ZRA is full of corruption and that he will soon set up a commissioner of inquire to probe ZRA and ensure that it is cleaned up.
“I ‘am very allergic to corruption and I want within one week to ensure that ZRA is probbed,” President Sata said.
Sata has since suspended a contract between Zesco and a named Egyptian company that was hired by the MMD government.
“It has come to my attention that the Egyptian company was milking us money so I have decided to suspend this contract to pave way for investigations”.

I am a strong PF member. However, the idea of a commission of enquiry is good if the period of enquiry is short, reason being that these enquiries cost money as well.Let not the cost of enquiry exceed the expected findings.
Wishing the President good tidings.Continue sweeping Sir.

This really means nothing if the President is the one that has to appoint the MD,it’s all political as usual, whenever there’s a new leader in the country, that leader will always appoint his own people as CEO’s in parastatals.I only hope Sata will change the culture of govt and the ruling party borrowing from Zesco all the time because that company will sink one day.

Ba kateka is not firering anyhow, he is just sweeping the dirty left by RB. You cant just move into a new house and start using the previous tenant’s curtans, blankents etc. He should start with his own. The curtans, blankets, pots, police command, press, political advizers left by RB are all removed from the State House. Cant you see! even Faz has removed the National Coach b,coz the nation is aware of how the S/H employed the Italian. All these firerings and terminations of contracts are aimed at making the country better. One typical example of money in the pockets in 90 days is my K400-00 change from a 4.9LT fuel at the fuel station.

what SATA has reviewed so far is more than enough what u ba CHIMBWI are saying that he shld deliver in 90 days. When RB ruled we never knew of these corrupt activities.pipo were afraid to review in fear of being victimized, fired or lose their lives.but God answered the pipo’s prayer and gave us SATA.its now upto to us the citizens, police, army, ministry of justice to help the President on his 90 days promises.imagine how much money will be recovered out of these currupt activities the president has reviewed so far.are u telling me that if this money was well invested will not benefit poor Zambian children and women? We are talking of billions of DOLLARS mwe bantu.the president is being transparent by telling the whole country the truth and yet you IDIOTS are vomiting shit.yes u are not happy with the way SATA IS AXING heads of various departments everyday bcoz you have relatives who are being axed.Well you are not the only ones suffering.Even me i have been affected by the president’s AXE but i understand.this is a complete different GOVERNMENT and SATA needs a complete new look of leadership he’s got faith in.Let the president work.Support him if u can but even if u don’t there are millions who are behind Him.Morever God who chose him.SATA is human and will make mistakes as well but he’s now trying to correct the mistakes made by the previuos govt.leave him alone to work for the poor children and women of our country.

Leeee, Uli ulimuntu saana! I think yo comment should serve as conclusion to this topic. You simply said what human beings should be thinking by now, Sata is a Leader, his responsibility is to put the right pipo in correct positions in expectancy of results. These pipo we believe shoud go by his ideals and then implement. 90 days was even too much. Come on, LETS work country men and women!

I was a former Zesco employee and served as Commercial Mger and Mgt. Accountant. My advise to my friend New MD, plse go back to the year 2000 and decentralise all finance and HR functions to their respective divisions. The system at the moment is Top Heavy all those senior mgers getting fat salaries at HO doing nothing should be removed and let each division be accountable and responsible for all payments and employment should be done from each region according to the company policy and guide lines.Corruption is done at the HO. Note that delagation goes with responsibility.
