VJ Says MMD Lost Because It Overstayed As He Praises SATA
Veteran politician, journalist and former Spy Chief and experienced rigger, Vernon Johnson Mwaanga has said the election of Patriotic Front(PF) Leader, Michael Chilufya Sata to the presidency marks the beginning of a new era in the history of Zambia.
Mwaanga also said the loss of power by the MMD was an indication that the leadership had stopped listening to advice and to what people wanted and also that the party had overstayed in power.
Mwaanga has requested the authorities and Zambians to allow former president Banda to retire in peace and dignity. He urged the PF in their euphoria of victory not to forget the good works that Banda did for the country.
Mwanga said “Political power should never be for individual leaders but for our people, who have acquired an appetite for the Rule of Law, Democracy and Governance.”
He said that Sata had many important and inspiring appointments, while others have been less so.
Mwaanga said the loss of power by the MMD would appear strange to young members.
“Many perhaps do not realise that when we formed the MMD after March 1990, we functioned as a responsible and mature Opposition”.
He also called on the PF government not to exercise vengeance, settling of old scores and retribution. He urged on the new government to build on the ‘good things’ left by the MMD.
He welcomed most pronouncements and decisions made by President Sata and encouraged him to put Zambia first as leaders come and go.
He urged Mr. Sata who he described as a pragmatic leader, to use his power and authority to unite the country and to encourage Zambians to work hard so that the economic gains of the last 20years are not reversed.
He asked the MMD leadership to accept the loss and begin the work of being a responsible opposition.

o.k one impressive thing i`v noticed is that VJ aint acting like a traitor (unlike some ungrateful defectors i know) on one hand, yes RB should be checked but on the other hand, the gvt shouldnt preoccupy itself with that, then overlook developmental merits the hav 2 leave behind as wel. uwaisa, kuya aya!

Mr Mwanga is playing an opportunistic game. My advice to all NEC MMD is that they should all resign and we the Zambian people want to reorganise our party in accordance with the original objectives. This we will call for a crusade and SOUND RENNAISCENCE of the party. Highjackers have destroyed the party and we the young Zmbians who have embraced democracy will fight on for the ideals we hold of Good Governance, Rule of Law, Accountability and Transparency. These values we cherish so much and will defend them teneciously and if need be it is an ideal we are prepared to die defending. Mwanga and all old chaps un able to embrace change go home and rest. Zambia will remain for the up coming generation.
