MAGIC BIRD Hacked and Burnt In Kawambwa

By Godfrey Chikumbi in Kawambwa

An eagle believed to be superstitious was yesterday hacked and burnt to ashes in Kawambwa after it failed to fly for safety.

In what is believed to be a bizarre incident,  a group of  of Mutoba village located 25 kilometers away from Kawambwa  boma yesterday morning found what was believed to be a magic bird in the nearby bush.

Narrating the ordeal to tumfweko.com village headman Mutoba said the bird fell from a tree that was being cut.

He said when the bird fell down it lost strength and became so weak that it failed to make a flight as it was decorated with ornaments of different kind.

The headman said  the creature had a metallic silver ring on each leg with inscriptions on them saying the right ring had letters ‘USA’ with the left having ‘1995’.

He said on its chest the bird had a small Television screen with a solar panel and battery connected to it.

The traditional leader added that on the bird’s back was a small motor car attached to a motorbike.

Headman Mutoba said when some people started beating the creature with sticks it showed no sign of losing its life until after 3 hours.

He said the creature was later burnt to ashes after hours of watching it.

I am of the view that this bird was tagged for research. It indeed goes on to show the illiteracy levels in our country. Let’s make this as a starting point to educate our people, they are surely ignorant. Yes migratory birds do move for great distances, and this might have been one of them.

The bird was most likely a dummy used for research avian migratory pattern, probably mating and nesting habits as well,it was a probably a case of mis-information on my brothers part

Ichoni tachakwete problem. Nga chafwele ubulungu kasako. It was a research thingy. It unfortunately landed or ran out steam among some of Africa most superstitious people. (Ask Katele). And they did to it what they know best – bachifaynta.

Imwe ba Satana ubu te butu. kwisuka. You fly anything even across Zim without space permision, you be shot dead ba sucker. No gudgets flying over Zed. OK. I have been to some humble Uni but please tell me. Do eagles migrate intercontinentally? SA is capable of spying over neighbours. Well done Kabambwa. If it is for some study, the freak who was mornitoring is long dead.

Once upon a time no one thought it possible for a man to walk on the moon today, it would seem silly if you thought it impossible. So just because something sounds ilogical to you does not mean it is, you would be amazed at how far birds can travel and at what speed and what conditions they can endure, they travel great distances escaping winter in the north pole to warmer climates. Just because you don’t understand how or why doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen at all. It is better to let people wonder if you are ignorant than to open your mouth and prove them right

No need to kill the bird! I strongly believe the bird was being used for research, maybe that TV on the chest was a camera powered by the solar! Oh please people can be so dull…! Why didn’t they leave room for investigations, the rings were a pure sign that one it was from the USA and two it set out its journey in 1995. Am sure that motor bike or whatever it is could have been some form of GPS and symbols of good luck by the initiators of the project…! Unless if they told me the thing had mirrors and beads on it then I was going to believe it was used for witchcraft.

it is true the villagers don’t know about research and all that stuff.

ignorance at its worst. i guess if one of you bloggers happened to be in that crowed and you dared explain all the crap you are yapping here you could be lynched by cassava eating uncles of mine.

what does this tell us? there is so much ignorance in our abandoned backyards(villages.

What a loss, now I believe that Ignorance is expensive and it kills. Fellow Zambians now we see why ZNBC and private TV stations (ZESCO included) should expand to all areas in Zambia at least our people in villages can watch some research documentaries then they will be enlightened.

Mystery solved! I have just had confirmation that the bird that was killed was a Lesser Spotted Eagle nick named LISA. It was ringed in Romania under a project by Milvus Group which has been tracking these birds for the last 2 years or so. Lisa disappeared from satellite (stopped transmitting on the 18th). The so called motor bike and tv was a solar powered Argos 45g Satellite transmit. Lisa also had two rings one with the letters AS (easily confused with USA) and another with letters 1395 (easily confused with 1995).

There is no witchcraft or spying involved and its purely biological research. Infact we are using similar transmitters in Bangweulu to track some birds here.
