PETITIONERS in the Barotseland fracas commission, have urged the commision to Summon embattled former republican President Rupiah Banda to answer some questions as he was chief-of-the armed forces.
A witness told the Barotse Commission of Inquiry Chairperson Dr. Rodger Chongwe to summon former president, Rupiah Banda to answer charges of allegedly atrocities committed in Western Province during the disturbances last year.
Making submissions to Commission in Mongu, Captain Lawrence Nyambe demanded that the Commission should summon the former president in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief.
He said that the action by the Police to use live ammunition could only have been a chain command coming from the Republican President, the Minister of Home Affairs and the Inspector General of Police down to the officers on the ground in Mongu.
Captain Nyambe bemoaned the frustrations the people of Western Province emanating from the cancellation of the Barotse Agreement. He said they want people to respect them and the people of Western Province not to feel oppressed.
And another petitioner Charles Milupi, 57, in his submission to the commission said the marginalisation of Barotseland by the Government had caused anger especially among the youths.
He said there was utter hopelessness among the people of Barotseland because they felt there was a deliberate plan by the Government to destroy Barotseland.
“The people of Barotseland looked away from the traditional political leadership and now they look at the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE). The BRE were, however, slow to recognise the mood-swing and therefore made themselves unavailable to the people who were looking for leadership,” he said.

Who said with immunity can be asked questions for the sake of clarifying matters. He must go there and explain what really transpired for he was the man behind the whole scene

No 1 is above the law whether with or without immunity. He should just go and answer to the charges.

The sittings in Mongu are simply an inquiry as at now, so let the man go and answer a few questionz, thats all. Imunity, though abit out of context, if FTJ who ruled Zed 4many yearz, was subjected 2 liftng of immunity by mmd gvmnt, who is rb 2 run away frm precedence whch themselvez set?

Let RB go and ans questions. He is just a dull man who thought he owned the zambian voters. Its pay back time and he will not run away and whoever wants to protect them for their transgrations will be know by the Z peolple and will shoulder the wt.
