MMD, UPND MPs Mock PF

OPPOSITION MPs heckled and mocked the Patriotic Front government over manoeuvres by President Michael Sata to appoint Xavier Chungu as Luapula Province permanent secretary.

Gwembe United Party for National Development (UPND) member of parliament Brian Ntundu said the appointment of Chungu, Zambia’s former intelligence chief who is suspected to have anchored late Frederick Chiluba’s sustained haemorrhaging the country’s coffers, signaled the end of President Sata’s fight against graft.

Ntundu who laid on the table The Post newspaper edition number 5492 headlined ‘Sata appoints Xavier PS’ said he had been “put off” by Chungu’s appointment.

“If what you have written, “then you are gone.” And if it’s true, through, then we are not fighting corruption. What is true from your good friend “your paper” The Post newspaper which is only a friend to you only… I can even lay it on the table of the House,” Ntundu said amidst shouts of ki masholi (they are thieves) from some UPND MPs.

He said PF should not overrate its election victory that saw the party dislodge MMD from power after 20 years.

“I am now beginning to think MMD was a better government,” said Ntundu as opposition MPs burst into shouts of hear! hear! hear! hear!
Ntundu said the opposition would only support the PF government if it brought progressive bills to Parliament.

“We are not bitter and we shall support you when you bring in good Bills that favour Zambians. If you bring in motions that would not be in favour of Zambians, we shoot them down and you can dissolve if you feel like and you will see us here again,” said Ntundu.

He, however, said Zambians were not interested in going for another election. “If our President thinks there is money in the coffers, let him do the roads. Let him not take that money for another election.

People of Zambia are not interested,” said Ntundu.
Last week, President Sata threatened to dissolve Parliament if the opposition MMD and UPND continued to frustrate the fight against corruption by undermining formulation of legislation aimed to strengthen the fight against the vice.

President Sata said if the opposition for the second time shot down the motion to have the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) adopted, he would have no option but to dissolve Parliament and call for elections.

And Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) MP for Luena Mulumemui Imenda said fighting corruption did not amount to witch-hunting.

“I support the President. I must state that it is not witch-hunting to investigate cases of corruption,” said Imenda when delivering her maiden speech to Parliament. “The investigation is about what happened, if there is a who, well let them explain.”

It didnt have to come to this if only the new administration cared to ensure that all appointees were as clean as a whistle. Now when you have appointees who the whole world know as being convicted plunderers but probably out of jail on suspended sentences, aqcuited on technicalities, still undergoing various stages of litigation etc etc how do you expect electorates who voted for PF on conviction that at last here is an administration with a political will to stamp out corruption are feeling now. They feel betrayed and let down.GUESS WHO IS HAVING THE LAST LAUGH – PLUNDERERS OFCOURSE. THEY CAN ENJOY THEIR ILL GOTTEN WEALTH ( IN OFF SHORE ACCOUNTS) WITH THE BLESSING OF THE POWERS THAT BE.

Am ashamed of the two appointments. We can do better than that by consulting when making appointments. However, for Nkandu to think that MMD was a better government is mockery to majority zambians who had no share of the nations cake. Munadya Mweka Dady!(MMD)

But Chungu is a blunder to even consider, in all angles. Disappointing!

I very much agree with the posts’s edotorial where they have advised HE MC Sata to improve on the quality of his appointments if is to have less critism. For sure no one has capacity to know everybody ( over 13 m) in this country, the only way out is wider consultation. Ba Sata, we are behind you and please get the free expensive gift from the post if you are to succeed.

this what you wanted. What can expect from sata apart from do what chiluba was stopped.Sata only left Chiluba when Mwanawasa was taken as part president and candidate. Now Sata in the driving seat. What next. To do what he wanted Chiluba to do if the third term he was championing had gone through. Any way, through Sat it has succided.SATA is SATA what ever happens he will remain SATA.Swallow your pride and accept that he is not a presidential material. Kaunda had said it and you called him all names.Be ready more yet to come.

    See you then.

On this one, I am with UPND and MMD. The day u start appoint pipo like Chungu and other corrupt elements – suspect or otherwise – is the day u lose my future vote. And not just my vote but that of my dependents, my drinking mates, my houseboy, my ATM’s u know, the list is long.

Attention: all freedom fighters who threw their weight behind the PF led revolution. Let us guard our hard won second independence and let us tell president Sata that we were not fools to have supported him. We propagated the slogan of ‘Don’t Kubeba’ in a sincere contextual meaning of teaching Rupiah Banda and MMD a lesson that they would never forget, by accepting whatever gift they tangled in the false hope that those who got those gifts would vote for them. We never attached any other meaning to the slogan. But now president Sata has come out to show us another meaning of don’t kubeba. In my own view Sata had dealings with questionable characters like Xavier Chungu and Emmanuel Mwamba but he did not want to tell us for fear of losing support. Now that he has got what he wanted he has turned against us and he is taking us for fools. You can’t bring Xaviour Chungu back in the limelight, when you are trying to remove corruption cobwebs from all crevices of the Zambian society. Chungu is the spider who weaves the corruption cobwebs.

OK, if Chungu is a favourite to president Sata, does it mean that he was never involved in the Zamtrop scam? If Chungu is innocent, why did he flee the country when former late president Mwanawasa waged a just war against corruption and criminals who depleted the national coffers? If Chungu was supporting PF secretly why was he mentioned to have been actively campaigning for Rupiah Banda and MMD in Luapula province at the height of the September election campaigns? If Chungu is innocent, how does former late president Chiluba become guilt whom president Sata had vowed to send back to court should PF win the elections? Please, your excellence spare us the annoyance. It is too early in the season to start this kind of relating to the citizens. Listen to advice, consult widely and do not become too opinionated. We trusted you when we gave you support. We rejected corruption of Chiluba and Banda governments. Anyone associated with corruption in these two regimes can not be given to Zambians as token of appreciation for voting for PF. President Sata please do not look down on us now that you are president We know you as a man of action who can deliver to satisfy the expectations of all the citizens. Do not forget that Rupiah Banda literally cried for losing power because he felt cheated by those who surrounded him. If you choose to march on the same path then expect a time when you will cry also. Icalo bantu, Akamana ukupoma nipamabwe, mpombo wibilima ababilima tabafika, uwenda na ngoshe nokumubeya eumubeya. Please president Sata listen to our cries. Don’t creat a state of confusion where you are making good high sounding pronouncements of fighting corruption tooth and nail, while you are embracing the weavers of corruption. Your pledge to rule this country on biblical terms should be seen in your actions and not mere pronouncements. If there is a spell of magic in state house which transforms good people into bad ones as they assume presidency let it be bound and destroyed in the name of Jesus. President Sata, you sacrificed for ten years with a zeal to liberate Zambia and we followed you. Why should it be like this shortly after that eventful electoral victory? President Sata please check and evaluate the opinions and advice coming from every corner. Some of these could be snares laid for you so that you get caught up. Be reminded that your ascendency to the position of president of Zambia has not settled well with your enemies who are bent on doing anything to fix you and they can do this subtly by pretending to be closer to you. This is the work of mercenaries. How come those who were hurling unspeakables at you barely a month ago are now resigning from their rotting party MMD and are joining the PF? Do you think they are doing this for the good of PF? I doubt. Please your excellence you are still loved by Zambians. Don’t annoy them unnecessarily by embracing those perceived to be responsible for their suffering, who stole from them and reduce them to mere mortals eking a living through scavenging. We want real transformation and development. Corruption and those who peddle it must be shunted for ever. If not, then our struggle for freedom continues and don’t kubeba will be rated according to seasons. Don’t kubeba season two can come any time if things do not change drastically from Rupiah and Chiluba governments.

Mwamba is not ok. Am sorry to have to say this to Dien.

Point one, as a Civil Servant he wa ssupposed to be non-partisan. He clearly was not and had openly criticised the Opposition including three days before the 20/09/2011 elections

Point two Mwamba was arrested for stealing money from his then employers ZANACO, and was detained at Town Centre police post.

Thirdly he has no tertiary qualification to speak of and his being a Senior Jopurnalsit is news to some of us. He just as an MBA from AIBT and am sure that where he met ba Auga (Augustine Seyuba) because thats also theonly tertiary qualification Ba Auga has.

Fourthly, Northern Province is one of the Hotbeds of this country. We produced the First President, Kaunda, from Chinsali and many eminent Zambian Politicans like Justin Musonda Chimba, Elias Chipimo, Bill Chanda, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Robert Speedwell Kapasa Makasa, Abel Chambeshi, Alexander Bwalya Chikwanda, Lawrence Katilungu, John Mupanga Mwanakatwe.

Am sorry, Dien, but these where hardworking and eminent Politicans who had the heart for not just the people of Northern province but sacrificed alongside their colleagues from other provinces to foster the Birth of Zambia and to steer Zambia in the difficult post independence years. We are not saying Mwamba has nothing to offer but a Controlling Officer who has a history of dipping in the emploeyr’s coffers!

There are so many people who better represent the aspirations of the people of Northern Province. Not a playboy like Ba Emmanuel na ka BMW akapwa!

Bembas admitting Sata their fellow Bemba is corrupt. Protest more as you speak AMALUMBO but he too has tricked you as well. Chiluba was a trick star so is Sata now tricking his own PF members and create a clique where a few matter. Tell us who is BOZ boss? As we hear he has put his niece as BOZ Governor. FILI UKO TULEYA. DONT KUBEBA PART 2 IS COMING.

If really it is disappointing, the why did the MMD fail to do anything to deal with Chiluba who commanded Chungu & Mr. musonda (Zanaco)? Are you people so smart that you could have said no to Chiluba had you been in their shoes?
Chungu and Mr. Musonda have suffered alot. He is not perfect, but what is so bad about him apart from the fact he did what Chiluba who was in the highest office at that time authorised him to do. Is it GOd who spoke to you that Sata did a wrong thing?
when Chiluba was freed by RB of MMD the MP was quiet because he was RB`s puppet. He all of a sudden has the ability of wisdom which he did not have barely a year. God has forgiven Chungu. So just pray for him to be a better man so that he may die hero and not a shame to Zambia. We all need second chances. Dont try to b holier than thou.

Ba kateka, if anything I would expect you to ask the courts of law to follow the proper channel and revisit Xavior Chungu’s cases. After all he was never discharged of any of them. Tulefwaya impiya yesu atubwesesheko mukwai. Then Mwamba being a civil servant can be retired in public interest – period. How will you fight corruption if you start twisting your arms so soon? Good talk but we want to see actions and justice done. Please check your appointments carefully, are there no CIAs to be vetting people for you? You are not running a political party but a nation. May the Good Lord grant you the wisdom that you need to run that high office.
