ZNBC ‘Clean Up’ Begins As Himanje, Doris Mulenga Are RETIRED

THE Zambia National Broadcasting Cooperation ZNBC has retired some departmental heads, among them head of production and operation In’nutu Himanje.
In an interview, ZNBC director general Joe Chilaizya named other heads that have been retired as controller of radio Doris Mulenga and TV Controller Osward Mutale.
“I have decided to retire the controller of radio Doris Mulenga and controller TV Osward Mutale and then also the head of prodiction and operation In’nutu Himanje and special projects editor Rosemary Chumpuka. Those i decided to relieve of there duties and i have replaced them with Annie Mukabe who is now controller TV. The position of special projects editor I have abolished it because it was created specifically for one person. I don’t think that is the right thing to do. If you don’t have any work for that person, then it is better to retire them,” Chilaizya said.
Chilaizya named others who have been retired as director marketing and sales Chris Chilongo while Kelly Chubili has been reinstated as news manager, saying he was unjustly fired by the former regime.
He disclosed that an independent report that audited the whole firm felt that these positions were not good for the coorperation and recommended for retirement altogether.
He has also transfered a number of people to Kitwe. Faith Kandaba is now head of operations, taking over from where Annie Mukabe left off. Hyde Haguta, website editor, has been transfered to Livingstone because ZNBC needs more production. Chansa Mayani has been transfered to Kitwe and brought in Melesiana Chibwe who has been promoted to Lusaka. Daniel Mukena is acting director marketing and sales.
Chilaizya said the changes were at strategic levels saying that was were ‘All Nonsense’ used to happen, adding that there was therefore need to restructure everything.

Ingutu started work at ZNBC in 1991 for your information. Don”t think she is young.

Retiring the poor workers is not the solution. What need to be changed is the mindset of our politicians (especially cadres) who feel if they are in power they have a right to dictate what kind of news should be churned out to the public (even when its not news worth).

Actually what we need are laws that guarantee the independence of the Public Media. Even the man retiring his colleagues has been appointed by a Minister and as the saying goes “you cant bite the finger that feeds you”.

Lets take a leaf from the SABC and BBC where it is impossible for the state to interfere in running them.

These could be victims of bad working conditions at ZNBC prevailing under MMD misrule. MMD mistook public media to be a dept within their party. Anyway the cleaning and mopping should continue – remember to shine.

Ah, I remember when election results were being announced, and the ZNBC presenters told their field reporters to only concentrate on Parliamentary and Local Government results and not presidential…….I remember Anne Mukabe giving one reporter such instructions…….that was bad indeed!

Retiring Inutu and Doris is a sign of failing to manage your staff Ba Chilaizya unless u proposed and they turned u down. Couldn’t u ‘ve considered moving them around? A correction in institutions or industry if u like, there is what they call “personal to holder positions” do some research bosses.

This is really sad. These guys worked under high duress/pressure from cadres such as the one who has fired them. The sad part:they could have been fired by MMD anyway! The guy who has been reinstated should help champion the cause for the profession instead of just celebrating.I thought i heard one new minister who alluded to having a profession media institution;is this the way to go about this? She could have joined in 1991 for sure but she is has a lot of time opportunity to contribute.I though Maduma should have been geared more for DG instead of dir of programmes. If he cant qualify for DG then he is not fit for the current position he is holding;a younger/youth,intelligent and modern person should have been soufgt for this job instead.

i took time to go thru the znbc act.the DG and other staff are supposed to be appointed by the board of directors which itself is constituted by the minister..now if dg is an employee where the hell does he get the power to retire fellow employees?that firin is a nullity at law..doris n himanje challenge that null and void decision by this overzealous monk

Inkotizi shileipela incito. Are we ever going to work? I dont think this the change that the Zambian people, us the Zambia people wanted. Inutu is still young to be retired. She might have worked 20 years but she is not yet 55 and now 65 as is the new retirement age now. This level of vindictiveness has escalated into idiocy and it must be fought. We the young generation need the jobs that are being given to ald and finished people. With due respect, Mr. Maduma should have refused to take that position and give chance to a young and vibrant man. Al calling on all the young generation to rise and take their positions and tell the old generation that we want to start learning how to lead this country. We need those powerful positons and from the NKOTIZi we only need guidance not competition!

Excited cadre at work, this Dg should identify the real problems at znbc.our complaints as znbc tv viewers has not been about these employees that have been fired, but poor news coverage,in most cases covering govermnent and ruling party programs, backwardness in terms of technology use,eg replays during football showing are still elusive for znbc, inability to secure new movies, znbc could not even cover adequately the inaguaration of sata.,it looked it was being recorded from a cellphone,we couldnt see satas face only the ears and the bible. So many things need to be corrected.i wonder if this dg was even interested in operations at znbc before he was appointed.mr dg if you are manager lets have leadership at znbc no vengeance,no bootlicking,no cadre traits,no overzealousness, remember you are not there forever-maximum five years.just do good when you still can.where is gaddafi, from a house with golden walls to a stinking trench.GOD IS THE FAIREST JUDGE

good riddance.Next DG fire all those who derived pleasure in reading news that insulted the opposition then.I have in mind Patricia Elis and the other two young ladies.

Thanks for promoting Annie Mukabe she deserves it.Congrats to her.
