ZRA Officer TURNS Sitting Room Into An Office

A Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) customs officer at Ijimbi in Ikelenge bordering Angola has turned his sitting room into an office due to lack of infrastructure.
Felix Chipalo told Permanent Secretary for North Western province Dr Shamulenge during a tour of Ijimbi border on Thursday that he had converted his sitting room into an office because ZRA did not setup office infrastructure though it maintained active operations.
Chipalo complained that operating from his house was not ideal but he had no choice and hoped that a lasting solution would be found as tax activity increased with more exports in agriculture, clothing and anticipated rise in oil importation.
And Aaron Zulu, deputy immigration officer also at Ijimbi, said the department of immigration at the border post had no vehicle and that the office was forced to use public transport when taking government revenue to Mwinilunga, about 100 Kilometers away.
Zulu urged the government to work on the Ijimbi road which he said became impassable during the rain season and negatively affected the flow of traffic from which government earned an average $1,500-$2,000 per month from immigration fees.
He said the department was further set back with personnel deficiencies resulting in long streches of the border line not being monitored and thus exposed it to illegal activity.
Zulu also told Dr Shamulenge that Ijimbi was also beset by water and sanitation challenges as it did not have piped water and depended on seasonal shallow wells.
Dr Shamulenge admitted that that the government had not fully paid attention to infrastructure development at the border post and said the scenario had resulted in low level of traffic but promised to revitalize the station with better facilities to increase the tax base.

Would you ask for a better job than this – collecting govt revenue from your house? It means you must buy two wallets; one for the family and the other for BOMA. And also have two receipt books, then charge govt rentals for using your house and security fees for looking after sensitive documents plus overtime for spending your whole life at work!! Hey, I can’t waith to be this guy!

These are the galant Zambians who deserve awards and honour during independence day celebrations, not Dandy Crazy and the likes.

It seems this guy is never late for work and he never knocks off(patriotic Zambia).Demand rentals or inconvenience allowance for using your home. ZRA and government should be ashamed of them selves about this. Surely during campaigns MMD dressed up all the trees with chitenges, bought 101 vehicles, even made rolly pops yet some boarders don’t have government offices. Someone has to be fired with immediate effect

Out of my many adventures, I ended up at that boarder in 2005. Yes – there is nothing to show that there is a boarder indeed. On the Angola side, the “buildings” are mud huts. The “road” crosses a marsh and rainy season becomes hell.

Overall, it is ordinary people Chipalo that deserve awards/medals at Independence Day. There is another brave man I met – the operator of a manual pontoon on Kafue River between Mumbwa and Kasempa. Guided by a wire rope, he rows the pontoon loaded with your vehicle between Central and Northwestern provinces.
    God bless these people.
