RB ACQUIRED Property Worth $US 700,000 Three Months AFTER Being Elected President

EMBATTLED FORMER republican President has been linked to money laundering and abuse of office in relation to the purchase of plot No. RE/A/29/488A leopards Hill road, Kabulonga.
Sources knowledgeable about the transaction have disclosed that Banda acquired the property about three months after becoming president for about US$700,000 and demolished what was there to build a multi-million dollar complex of 12 villas.
Sources say this was clear corruption and money laundering by the former president.
“This is why these guys were in a hurry to remove the abuse of office clause from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Act. How was Mr Rupiah Banda going to explain how he got the money to buy the property, demolish and build his multi-million dollar complex, if the abuse of office clause had remained ?,” Wondered the source.
“These transactions that Rupiah Banda got in will embarrass him.”
The embattled leader has been advised by former confidant Lameck Mangani to come out in the open and explain his involement in alleged dubious transactions.
Commenting on Gold scam revelations that Banda’s former press aide Dickson Jere introduced gold buyers to the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and immediate-past commissioner Aaron Zulu, former home affairs minister Mangani said all the people who were involved in the gold sale should come out and tell the truth to the nation.
He said there was no way DEC could be a transaction centre of gold.
‘Now that State House was fully involved, the former president must come out in the pen. What does this mean because now Dickson is being linked, heavily, to this? Was Dickson acting alone or he was being sent?,’ said Mangani, a one-time Banda confidant but now a member of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

Did he get his gratuity after 3 months or what? Zambia is not a poor country indeed if we have such money why is our economy in shambles?? surely tax payers money is being misappropriated heavily. I cant help thinking politicians just want to enrich themselves very few want to improve the well being of Zambians if at all we have any..

Government need serious auditing by an independent(external) auditing firm if we have to avoid such acts by RB & MMD. its our money we need to know how it is being spent

Thats why I DONT VOTE, coz I know these guys are there for their personal (and families’) gains. more ‘money in the pocket’, my foot! we will wait and see. All those who voted for RB share the blame for the old man’s misdeeds, just as all those who voted for mr MCS share the responsibility for thr blunders we are seeing in the first 90 days!

3 months after he became President. Oh, my! All this time people have been quiet and now 3 years later they come out and say this. There is a whistle blower’s Act which allows anyone to say something, so why didn’t anyone say so while this man was President? Abuse of office Act has nothing to do with theft. A person cannot steal and hope to be protected because there is no abuse of office close. This is just preposterous!

What is so corrupt about getting a loan from a bank and developing property? Zambians have been reduced to petty thinkers by this corrupt Fred Mmembe who sees nothing wrong in corrupting the morals and perceptions of the Zambian with his Post. Zambians weak up!

Point of correction, they are 16, not 12. I c them omost everyde and one blower told me they were 16. I wl count them again to be sure, but am very sure they r 16! When u r ku roadside, they actually look 4 or 5, but when u cast a wishful eye, u get a little shock!

Iwe Pierre et Seydou what ever you are, are you related??the article says he acquired the property about three months after becoming president for about US$700,000(ZMK 3,360,000,000.00)
Who gets that kind of money in 3 months, not even his gratuity for 3 months would amount to that.If he got a load somewhere he should say so, but that was pure misappropriation of public funds.

  23. Kolwestan

    November 8, 2011 at 11:47 am

To establish that he stole we need to know the source of the $700 0000 otherwise the story falls flat.

Drug Lord, I was happy at my farm with 3 goats and a munkombwe (no hens, too broke to buy a hen for the cock) then u woke me up and said come to town. I liked what I saw when I came to town and got involved in the biz just like Henry K and TJ. Remember I was promoted from vice to acting to real presido and Teta increased our salaries by some % I cant remember!!!

But while there might be issues here, I think we should not ignore the fact that RB was VP from October 2006 and that he acted Presido for 3 months before his election to the office of Presido. With that in mind, i don’t see him failing to acquire property worth K3.5 bn with his third presidential salary, correct me if i’m wrong. These are non issues. We need real issues and not witch-hunting issues that are already water under the bridge.

HOW MANY ZAMBIANS NOWADAYS BUY CARS WORTH K100m 3 MONTHS AS CIVIL SERVANTS ON A K5.5m SALARY? NEED THEY BE PROBED TOO? EVER HEARD OF THE TERM “LOAN”?

This is all rubbish and it shows the calibre of the Sangwapo government we have put in place. Why can they learn from Levy if at all they have some gray matter in what is between their shoulders. Levy quietly gathered data, played around with it and then went to parliament to present the case for parley to remove immunity on FTJ. Now these guys are just rushing to the press for anything rumour they get before analysis and at the end of the day the Sangwapo gvt is being embarrassed. Look at the so called “Gold Scandal” and what is comng out now! They are even quoting the current price of gold on LME instead of the price at the time this gold was being sold. Poor strategy!

@ Galamukani, you always think with your balls on all corruption topic that comes up on the blog. You seem to have your feet in the air and hads on the ground yo agree with RB being able to acquire K3.5 billion. I can assure you that RB will have to account for this money sooner or later and it does not matter what most of his supporters say or think! It is time to either enjoy a peaceful retirement if RB was honest and of high integrity or dance to the tune of being a crook. No wonder these idiots ammended the constitution to remove the abuse of office clause despite most stakeholders being against the move. @ Jamule, I have also just noticed that my old K50,000 bill has De La Rue as printer while the new note has GD Griesecke & Devirent. WHEN DID WE CHANGE OUR MONEY PRINTERS?
RB WAS SURELY CORRUPT AND THAT IS THE MAIN REASON WHY HE LOST ELECTIONS!

Thats why we wont develop pa zed because of these crooks so called ba presidents, they take us for granted that we are the christian nation.God will punish them wait judgement is near, let them steal from us poor and they look angels in our eyes, but one day things will be bad.RB jst in three months he misused that alot of money at the expense of us poor zambians.Remember the story of Lazarous in the new testament[ bible] after death.Let us look dull and foolish in their eyes and good in the eyes of God.He gave us wealth in this land regardless of who we are,but they have divided themselves thinking they are more human than others. Its their time, ecclesiasts 3 vs 1-8

CORRUPTION IS CORRUPTION Whether committed by an incumbent or former president. And whether pursing it is a witch hunt or not does also not matter, the only thing that matters is whether it is true that state resources were misused, misapplied or just stolen because the essence in pursuing it is to recover what belongs to the Zambian public. The benficiary of any monies recovered is us the commoners. Look, we do not know how many pensioners have not received their money coz RB bought property OR many council workers have gone months without pay as a result of this, so examples of the pain and suffering this deal may have inflicted on Zambians are endless!

this is very poor reporting. In America the newspaper would lose millions of dollars for such a poorly researched story.

Mangani is also very dull why request RB to explain, why not just quietly gather all the facts and Get him to court. B4 gathering enough procecuteable evidence Govt must remain quiet!!

RB is corrupt, so is his family. Anyone who supports corruption must be insane.
RB showed it to Zambians the love he had for money by becoming a “human bird”. The first few months he was in office, he was just busy flying from one country to another. Even then, the allowances he was making were not enough to come up with such buildings. In addition to that, Tandiwe was also busy receiving money from Ministry of Education. RB as the president then could not see that his wife was stealing from the government besides receiving allowances for being First Lady. RB and the entire family niba pompwe (thieves).

Guys thanks for your insults. I don’t think it’s a normal thing for a sane person to insult someone unknown to him in that manner. How can one think with his balls, Mr ‘Mwadya Mweka Dady’ kindly educate me how you do it. What I was saying is that for RB to be appointed VP, Levy should have nominated him as MP first. Being an MP for 2 years attracts gratuity. During the time he was an MP, he got paid sitting allowance per occasion. How many trips did he undertake both within and outside the country which also attracted out-of-station allowance. At VP level, this is not thousands but millions of Kwacha. A simple cumulation of these revenues as well as the VP salary might leave you with just K500m to account for.
