CLUBLESS Kalililo Kakonje has made Zambia’s trip to Nigeria for the November 15 international friendly.
Kakonje trained with the rest of the team on Tuesday and is among the four players that travel to South Africa tomorrow.
Coach Herve Renard said only two goalkeeper places were available for the friendly against Nigeria and Kakonje, who parted ways with TP Mazembe recently, joins firstchoice Kennedy Mweene.
Apart from Kakonje, Konkola Blades’ Thomas Nyirenda, on-loan Felix Katongo and Nyambe Mulenga of Zesco United are the other players that made the cut from the local contingent.
Suspended defender Emmanuel Mbola, who will miss the Africa Cup of Nations, has surprisingly made the cut despite his four months ban slapped by FIFA ruling the player out of the competition.
Mbola was suspended by FIFA after FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya and Mining Rangers sold him to TP Mazembe despite the duo having prior knowledge the player was contracted to Pyunik Yerevan of Armenia.
This followed a splendid performance by Mbola at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola at which he attracted massive scouting attention.
Mbola has since not played club football for two years and has like, Felix Katongo, been struggling with match fitness when summoned for national duty.
The Africa Cup of Nations is the continent’s biggest shopping window for top scouts.
Meanwhile, Renard has vowed to win the Nigeria friendly and show Zambia’s serious intention ahead of the Equatorial Guinea/Gabon African Cup of Nations tournament.
Physical trainer Patrice Beaumelle is expected to join Chipolopolo during the South Africa camp tomorrow.
The match between Zambia and Nigeria will be televised on SuperSport on Tuesday.
