NDOLA street vendors Friday 11/18 fought running battles with the police resulting in the injury of a 28 year old man.
The respective man is suspected to have been injured by a gunshot or tear gas canister following riots motivated by attempts by the law enforcement agency to remove the vendors.
The riot forced shop owners in the Central Business area to halt their operations.
Meanwhile, police are yet to establish what injured the man.
Copperbelt Police Deputy Commissioner, Milner Muyambango says investigations have been instituted.
He adds that the state police are available to assist local authorities to remove vendors from the streets.

Create employment and streets will automatically be cleared of them. At the moment, leave the alone for they have no means of survival. Please do onto others as you would like to do onto you. Insala muchalo chalitila.

We dont want street vending, let them go to market places. If we all go on the streets, wat wil happen? Most of these dudes are thieves. You can’t park yo car n expect it to be safe. Street vending is a bad act n can’t be justified in any way whether pipo ve nowhere to go. They ve all the bad manners n u can’t enjoy shopping.

In as much as we say vending is bad and these people should be removed from the streets,it should only be done when there is an alternative place for them.Remember the last time this was done, there was an increase in crime. So local authorities should look at the two sides of the coin before taking action.Otherwise more money in our pockets will be meaningless when we have mny criminals. At the moment this is not a good move, because its through vending that they support their families.

Street vending makes our town very dirty and also harbours some pick pocketers. There are empty shops and stands in the markets why cant they occupy these shese stands and shops? They voted for PF thinking that they be allowed to misbehave.

well if they’re sole purpose was to sell goods in peace I’m sure they would have stayed but the tendency to harass civilians and strip women is what has propelled them from being small business persons to being a public nuisance, so quite frankly good riddance.
