FORMER Immediate past Zambia Army commander Lt. Gen. Wisdom Lopa has apologised to president Sata for calling on him to desist from involving the defence forces in politics during the run-up to the September 20 tripartite polls.
Lt. Gen. Wisdom Lopa says he inadvertently mentioned President Sata’s name and has apologised on behalf of the former service chiefs.
General Lopa had called on Mr. Sata as an opposition leader then to desist from involving the Defence force into politics because they support the government of the day.
Gen. Lopa made the apology during his colourful Farewell Parade where he transferred the instruments of power to Army Commander Lt Gen. Paul Mihova at Arackan Barracks in Lusaka on Monday.
He apologised for the embarrassment the remarks may have caused president Sata.
And General Lopa has advised the Defence force to have a need to acquire knowledge because the Army must be in step with Modern Technology and Equipment.
He also paid tribute to the Army Commander and his Deputy for their well deserved appointments.
And Army Commander Lt. Gen. Mihova hailed General Lopa for his great contribution to the Army and his 40 years of gallant service.
And Army Chaplain Lieutenant Vincent Mweya commended General Lopa for the sacrifice he made to the Zambia Army.

Once again it takes great men to say that, we commend u GENERAL. Even SATA needs to be served the same way and those passing mediocre comments don’t know what they are vomiting.Yes the govt of the day needs to be served whether SATA or not, mind u SATA is not a factor but the head of govt.If any case he doesn’t even deserve an apology because we pay allegiance to the govt and not SATA Because even him will one day be out of power but govt will still go on BRAVO GENERAL

Kaili you thought that you were clever. ANYWAY, you are far much better than the tribalistic Commander we have now where we cant even shake the lips for fear of being tossed sky-high like Charlie Bucks, Silungwe and Inyambo who were the first victims in an apparent show that seems to interpret the fact the North-Westerners and Southeners (AB 1 & AB 2) are not happy that PF has come to power hence the tuma tribal-based appointments ! We know all these tricks because they are the same tricks that were in the Chisuzi era, and guess who was his Assistant. Unya oilo !

Sata has told you he doesn’t want praise sung for and am sure he’s not as petty as to withhold your benefits General! If it were in a professional army, only those deserving would be were you had been. But being one of patronage you are today on your knees! Am sure HE MCS is working to change Zambia for the better for all, even those that called him names during campaigns and those that did not vote for him. Naikabafye ba Lopa kabili kamadumbo GBM alemikonka ati nomba muli ma’ Ninja assassins. Ni double tobela, more to retreat and surrender!

Public Servants should not be partisan at all because you have to work with every government. Its very dissapointing that Public servants are allowed to make comments on politics publicly. Alot of zambian civil servants behave like cadres. Big mistake, understand your boundaries, other losers are vene posting gobenrment updates on facebook, are you not supposed to have confidentiality?? Please some one arrest the situation with these unrully civil servants, your job is to serve the public NOT politicians
Iyo Nkani !
November 22, 2011 at 7:47 am
Thats why there is need to have Unified Command so that the Defence Force Commander (Commanding Army, Aiforce and ZNS) is appointed by a Defence Council and ratified by Parliament. This Commander would then have no attachement to partisan politics and this would prevent Generals apologising embarrasingly after every election

There is nothing sinister in what he said.
The ARMY should indeed be neutral and serve government of the day, infact defend the citizenry against any aggression be it foreign or internal.
Unless he had other motives in his statement.
I hope he is not looking for a job in foreign service.
