THE family of Prescosia Chama, a teenage mother allegedly murdered by her JERABO husband, are enraged that her life was brutally curtailed. They want justice to prevail.
Justine Soko, 23, who belongs to the notorious JERABO gang of copper thieves, is accused of the murder of his 18-year-old wife in Kalulushi’s Chibuluma township.
Relatives yesterday told the Daily Mail that Ms Chama was only 17 when she eloped with Soko last year. She chose marriage in place of school and was convinced that she was in love, in the process conceiving and giving birth to a baby who is just about a year, according to police.
The son – whom we cannot name as he is a minor – may have to grow without both parents if the father goes to jail or hangs depending on what the judge decides.
Her marriage was not a walk-through-the-park. It was a nightmare rocked by domestic violence which eventually led to her brutal death as Zambian women commemorate the Sixteen Days of Gender Activism aimed at campaigning against violence on womenfolk and girls.
She was found hanging but a postmortem reveals she had been smothered much earlier and indications are that her husband did it.
The family is demanding that justice should prevail over the tragedy. They want the JERABO to hang.
Ms Chama was among several young women around the country trapped in the institution of marriage while enduring physical violence from their spouses.
Her grand-father John Tamba said, “We heard rumours (Tuesday) that our granddaughter had committed suicide. When we went to her house, we found her body hanging from the roof of the house, with a wire from a bicycle around her neck.”
Mr
Tamba, an ex-combat man said
the image of his granddaughter
hanging from the ceiling was
more horrifying than anything
he had seen in his career as a
soldier. He had never seen such
brutality as a soldier in the
Democratic Republic of Congo
(Congo DRC) for many years.
He knew his grand-daughter did
not take her own life the
moment he saw her.
His granddaughter’s body was
hanging near a bed when they
found it and believes Soko, the
husband of allegedly using her
chitenge material to wipe the
blood from the floor after
killing her and attempting to
fake a suicide.
“Immediately I saw the body of
my granddaughter, I knew it
was not suicide. During my
career as a soldier, I had seen
many bodies and Prescosia’s
body did look like that of
someone who had committed
suicide,” Mr Tamba said.
Chama, however, is not the only
Zambian woman who has been
brutalized and died in Zambia in
recent years. Studies show “a
sharp rise” in violence against
women.

Very sad indeed. I wish hanging the criminal could bring back Chama to life!
Only the most high will bring perfect justice – where the criminals will be punished and the victims brought back to life. Cant wait for this time!

at the risk of appearing inhuman, I say she killed herself. Why? Because she knew the chap was a monster but she chose to stay in that loveless marriage even when it was so very clear to her that the guy was going to kill her. Why didn’t she get the F@#$ out of that marriage beats me.

The more i hear about these idiots called jerabos, the more enraged am becoming by the failure of law enforcers to bring these mother fucking bustards to book. Maybe there’s something we don’t know….n that’s why they have to get away with all the nonsese. Death is too easy for this rotten scumbag and therefore should not be hanged. Let him be sent to the worst jail for life so that he can suffer and eventually die a very slow painful death. Mukongo wayina. May the poor girl’s soul rest in peace.

These guys even hav the nerve to even abduct the same policemen and torture them, so in this case, they’l jst giv the officer k50m n tel hin to go buy bread.
Indeed the police have to do more, coz many pipo r living in fear on the copperbelt. You can’t even have the same mugrims as the one a jerabo has before they damage ur wheels. Its very sad

@Chimbwi..Dr Malama, now IG, managed to tame them, thats why @ the moment thier Leader, the notorious Shimumbi, has been in remand @ Kasenshi even before the PF government came into power.Ever since he was promoted as a Coppeebelt Chief these Jerabos has been his major targets and he has been a thorn in their flesh!Of course some senior officers were(are) on their payroll but the IG is now flushing them out with his crack team.Atleast now we even able to report them to police for property grabing like plots…iam sure very soon these thugs will belong to the trashes of history. The fact that their boss,Shimumbi, is still in custudy its a sign that they are being dismantled…these thugs deserve long term jail sentences!

If this man knows the complexity of the human soul, he wouldn’t have even tried to kill this innocent lady.Desecration of human life or things that have been blessed, consecrated, or dedicated such men and women of God, churches, crucifixes,Holy Water etc is a sacrilege, and a very serious offence against the creator, especially if the act is deliberately willed.Remember what happened to King Belshazzar(Dan5:1-28ff)when he used the sacred vessels which were looted from the Jerusalem temple, to drink wine..(profanation).He died that very night. Now, the blood of this innocent girl is still crying to God.I hope the man knows the consequences..”You can run, but you cannot hide.”God is Watching.

@Peace Maker, you have cracked my ribs despite the sad story above. |Jerabos have to be controlled now andnow before we have other gangs who will emerge once they discover it is beneficial and there is no harm in belonging to a gang. This particular gangster is cursed and must be arrested and quickly convicted to spend the rest of his life in Mukobeko!

The problem is that people think that they cant live without being married!Marriage though being a more organised order for family security,is not the ultimate.Actually it wont even take you to Heaven. If you have a good marriage it can bring you ‘some’ faked happiness but if you gut a bad one, then misery all the way!So I wonder why SOME ladies should be so stranded as to only think of one thing in life – MARRIAGE!Do you believe that you can still enjoy Love even without being married? Talika! Love and marriage are two different things.Again sex is tied to marriage! What has got sex to do with marriage?People get locked up in abusive relationships just for the sake of ONE orgasm per night?I really feel bad for our sister who was killed just for sake of marriage.Money also seems to be a big issue with most ladies because everyone has been taught that MAN IS THE PROVIDER and hence most ladies cant even have ideas about money making. Why did God give you the brains anyway? If you cant use them then give them to me Hey!Just the other week we lost another beloved sister in Siavonga though nobody knows exactly who killed who.Thumbs up to all those LADIES who are growing to be independent. This dependence syndrome must stop. But we should promote inter-dependence.Ladies I assure you,you can live a happy life even without being abused. And if you a lady, and you like abusing men then you are in for a rude shock!Sex is not for sale but a natural and beautiful gift given by God to be enjoyed by all.Talika! No matter how many scriptures you quote here – ITS JUST NATURAL.I actually found it when I was born many centuries ago.Unless if the Jerabo makes you happy then we will be comfortable!Lets love one another genuinely then we will make a difference. Some think Love is buying them Tobomutwe! No tobomutwe then ba fulwa!!!!Lets grow up.
NO mercy for the ****

Who is a jerabo? How come every crime on the Copperbelt committed by an unemployed male is committed by a “jerabo”? Let’s be careful people that’s how genocides and sectarian crimes are perpetrated.
