IT’s less than two months when Tumfweko reported about some Zambian managers at LAFARGE cement who are working against their fellow Zambians but favouring the foreigners.
The named managers have been at the centre stage of turning down salary increments offered by the their foreign superiors.
Tumfweko disclosed names of the Zambian Culprit Managers playing ‘Muzungu Anikonde’ as ;Mwewa Kapepula, Industrial Director , Yotam Viyuyi-HR Lusaka Plant, and Beatrice Mutati-HR Director For Ndola and Lusaka.
This time, a scam has been unearthed in which LAFARGE management has created a bogus illegal pension scheme which is aimed at siphoning money from the low earned workers.
Well Placed Sources have disclosed to Tumfweko that LAFARGE management created an illegal pension scheme 7 years ago without the consent and agreement with their employees.
According to the sources, instead foreigners were made and used to sign on behalf of Zambians. This pension scheme is called LAFARGE trust fund.
‘Half of the pension of employees who go on retirement is deposited into this trust fund by management, then the retiree gets only half of his or her total entitlements. If an employee is to be paid K200 million as pension, he gets only K100million, then the other half he only gets monthly salaries of about K400,000. If he dies he loses the money,’said the source.
Sources disclosed that workers were in the dark on what agreement was made between ZISC and LAFARGE for ZISC to start transfering 66% of LAFARGE employees ZISC contributions into the illegal LAFARGE Trust Fund.
Sources also wondered where the pension contributions to ZISC by employees was from 2001 to 2003.
LAFARGE management has since failed to explain and account for the funds chewed to its workers when queried.
And workers at LAFARGE have urged government to order LAFARGE management to take the money back to ZISC.
The scandals at LAFARGE have worsened as 6 of its management officials are allegedly to have given the MMD K3.5 Billion for its campaigns for the just ended 2011 tripartite elections.
“But it denies it’s employees better salaries. If you want proof this, just visit Ndola plant or Lusaka old plant and see the employees for correct information. Management will tell you lies. They have blundered long enough. Things must change now,’ said the sources.
“The new director a nigerian, refused to occupy an executive mansion the former directors (whites), used to live in but instead directed the company to rent for him a presidential mansion for K36 Million per month and bought a Range Rover Sport car for K1 Billion which he never drove where he came from and one which no other former directors drove, but he refuses to gives us good conditions saying the company has no money and promises to be tough on us this coming year. ‘Mousoline’ kind of person, ” disclosed workers who sought anonymity.
Sources further disclosed that government must revolk the work permit of Ndola plant manager which was fraudulently obtained by Beatrice Mutati using Felix Mutati after his contract expired claiming that he has over stayed.
“We have Zambians who can manage this position much better than these foreigners. The gap between Zambian managers and foreingers salaries is too wide, heaven and earth”. They said.
LAFARGE Cement company has less than 900 employees.
Government has been asked to find out why permanent jobs are only given to relatives of managers only, leaving employees who have worked more than 10 years on contract to remain on contract with very little at the end and nothing to write home about.

This issue at Lafarge has been going on for long time, i feel its time for the Minister of labour chipped in to help our committed and hardworking emolyees. One zambia one nation, is a motto that explains emphathy amongest ourselves. We have no problem working with Xpats, but then ourselves as Zambians, we are busy frustrating our own efforts.I just to encourage everone that “United we divided we fall”, however we should know that to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.God bless all.

Its unfortunate that they dont know how pension funds are paid out. The law says you get 50% of your total benefits and the rest you purchase an anuity from an insurance company. They just need proper member education.

Am shocked to hear this story.Having worked for chilanga cement sometime back when Mr Mata was the plant manager,it realy boggles my mind.Chilanga cement(larfage) has been a highly organised institution and accredited with ISO 9000 quality system. All quality systems are audited.Being run by larfage(french company) which owns all cement plants in the world, you dont expect that.As for directors being foreign, that must not bother anyone cause its an international company. As I right other zambian are managing the same company in Canada and other places.A little insight and education may be needed on this subject how the organisation like this is run.President Sata must not be pulled into these misunderstandings, but just auditors can assist if clarity is needed.AS for human resource, yes to some extent there is some how,a strange way of absorbing employees in that organisation. However, all depends on the internal policies and how they impliment them.
Finally,if we are to help zambia, lets offer solutions
yours
Future president

Zambia should have been a paradise for all of us regardless of colour or ethnicity. But the animal in man seems to be prevalent almost everywhere whether it be parastatal or private.
Allow me to cite one true and vivid example of the local authorities more especially Lusaka City Council. As I write this article the minimum wage for us lowest paid employees is K360,000 far below the popular K450,000 minimum wage of which the president says should actually be revised. At the sametime, pension contributions remittance is still in arrears as far back as August 2010.
I think the labour movement just needs to be overhauled. It seems our union representatives have been compromised. We indeed a govt that really has the heart for the people.
Otherwise, managers everywhere seem to be good at cosmetic and false presentation of what really prevalent in their respective organisation.
This cancer must be ended!

The writer of this article and others blindly agreeing need some exposure and a lot of education. This is a measure used all over the world to stop ppl from mismanaging all of their retirement money as most would if they were given the whole amount at once. And then they’ll probably end up dying from poverty because our govt has no welfare system like the western world. So this ensures that the retiree has enough money to last them through their retirement. And im sure if you do your research, you’ll find that if the person died and they had listed a beneficiary, the remainder of the money will go to the beneficiary.

It is not surprising. It appears most of us are busy trying to bury excess cash instead of helping our brethren become better. Remember if you can help the least of you today, they will save you when you are in need in the future. That is how a lot societies we live in in diaspora behave. Another useless article by Tumfweko! Dont just write without doing some investigation of some sort. This is obviously a potentially good story in the making if any of the following were undertaken:-
1. Obtained some balanced view from Lafarge Management
2. Consulted ZISC or any listed professional Insurer on how such transactions are paid out to retirees
3. Removed the phobia element by checking the Larfarge ethics. this is a very big organisation, which I honestly dont think it may be run like a ‘kantemba’
Please dont instruct PF to reverse in more deals- blindly. These may prove too costly to the tax payer resulting in even lesser money in our pockets
